You know the way we in the west always stated in the past that certain countries / cultures in Africa/Asia dont place a lot of value on human life? Well, that applies to the UK now. The absolute scorn for face mask wearing in this country underlines that there is no ability to empathise with the plight of others, a key feature in societies that have sunk into semi-barbarism.

That's where we are as a country. Johnson's UK Banana Republic.

It’s as bad over here mate, I won’t lie, was in the supermarket earlier I counted on one hand the amount wearing masks.

Seems our politicians are copping on mind, about to be a big public campaign, the science emerging is becoming quite profound.

Trends in Ireland currently some stark reading on the trajectory of the virus, 8% of all men diagnosed died, 6% women, 95% of RIP’s never were admitted to ICU.

Biggest risk at the moment is picking up the virus at home.

Fantastic performance by Ireland, in sharp contrast to it's near-neighbour the Banana Republic.

It's almost like you had a doctor running your country while we had a butcher running ours...

At least the virus is under control there, though, and your government will do the sensible thing on face masks quicker than the Banana Republic.

UK haven’t come out of this well internationally unfortunately, also bad news on the economy contraction which weakens its stance on negotiating an exit deal with the EU and future trade deals everywhere. The UK government has showen a weakness, uncertainty and division. When it really needed to convey decisiveness, strength and unity.

What’s the feel at home mate, is there a ground swell for inquiry, loss of confidence in the Goverment, storming of the gates.

The black lives matters protests struck me as an outlet for more then the George Floyd/racism issue, while not minimising that issue, it seemed like an opportunity or outlet for a broad sense of social unrest from a disenfranchised people.

I think there's a simmering resentment. People are either too angry to focus on the issue yet (hence the BLM issue filling the vacuum) or just too stunned to focus. But when the danger passes this will all be out on the table and the utter folly of waiting until March 23rd will never go away and it'll be the decisive matter on the fall out of this.

There is something simmering there, it just needs a catalyst to trigger, like the BLM protest (again not minimising) hopefully the next trigger is behind a focussed and peaceful protagonist who can galvanise and unite. I do feel there is anger & unrest just building, that from the outside looking in of course, you'll know more with boots on the ground.

This is probably why theres such an effort to stoke up division now, over the BLM protests. Get people divided and the chance they'll act in a unified manner over whats happened with this virus is much less likely.

I think it will happen if and when job losses start to mount up and we see a significant number of companies going to the wall. The government have put themselves in a situation where any significant economic down-turn - which seems pretty inevitable - will get the general population turning against and threatening them, despite their majority. Brexit to come as well. It's going to be a tough old winter by the look of it.

Polling figures today show Keir Starmer is in a much stronger position than any opposition leader since Blair. Covid has been a terrible thing for the Tories (and the country/world but I'm making a separate point) but one thing that has helped is that Johnson isn't being constantly questioned in person by the opposition in full sight of everyone.

Johnson will live or die on the impact of Brexit combined with covid. He can use covid as an excuse to explain economic pain in some ways. But we have 4 years til the next election (assuming he lasts that long). In that time we will have an awful recession and there will likely be inquiries into the handling of covid. Starmer is pro-Europe which could harm him if Brexit goes well but let's be honest, it probably won't in the next 4 years at least. He is also very intelligent and a very successful lawyer who should be able to cut through any bullshit in the Commons.

I am not saying Starmer is the answer to all our problems (who could be) or that he will be some revolutionary leader. But with his skills against the quagmire Johnson will find himself in, I think there could well be a change in 4 years. It's a long time though so who knows

For everyone gagging for a pint I’d be concerned with the rumoured date of the 4th for pub opening if we don’t hear something given the shops got 3 weeks warning and you’d think a similar warning would be required .
@peteblue

Surely they need to open the barbers 1st though? How can you show your face for a pint with hair like tarzan?
