Its very niave to believe these protests in the UK are just about George Floyd, his death is now a lightening rod for various oppressions around the world.

Been listening to various voices from these UK protests they are absolutely about how oppressions manifest and keep certain people in their place.

That may well be true, I have no idea. And again, if so, its a noble cause.

One poster said the aerial shots are "worse" than the ground level ones, so I may well be getting annoyed for absolutely no reason. It wouldnt be the first time. @davek

I support the cause of these protestors, but not their actions. It's indefensible to be gathering like that in the teeth of a pandemic. But they've been encouragd to with dog whistling about R-numbers and falling infection rates and announcements about shops opening up etc.

They need to show some discipline.

They're also providing the future alibi for the government who will point at them for any massive second spike.

Tactically, these people are completely naive and clueless.

I've seen quite a few videos of the protests and to be honest, despite my initial 'I wish everyone wasn't crammed into one place', it looks as though people are largely wearing masks and distancing.

We need you on a nationwide roundup to sort it out mate, they clearly aren’t listening to Dumbass and HanCOCK

Normal is crap. It saddens me that people still don't see this.

At first it was nice seeing people helping each other as best they could, less sneering at people, a more laid back pace to life, people being more appreciative of others and what they did have.

Now a lot of people want the hell of normality back exactly the way it was.

All that can still carry on. Whether it will or not who knows, but theres no reason why not.

But if things dont go back to some sort of normality then thousands and thousands of people will lose their jobs and I dont want to see that.

That looks like too big a crowd in Westminster to be able to distance. I hope there are no issues with outbreaks because of this.

Lots of very small scale protests is surely a better approach. Democracy shouldn't have to completely stop during a health crisis either but common sense is obviously required.

There have been warnings coronavirus may be starting to spread again in the north-west and the south-west of England.

Some scientists say the R number is creeping up across the country and may have surpassed one - the point at which the epidemic takes off again - in these regions.

15000 protested in central Manchester.

It could be managed from a position where the curve had been flattened out (it hadn't) and track and trace systems were in place (they aren't).
Yes, exactly. Don't succumb to those peddling false dichotomies, like 'lockdown Vs work', when there's nuance, as I'm sure you know, we never had a strict lockdown, loads have still been working.

I suppose it depends if you believe there should be no protest at all. Distancing is necessary, but the people protesting in the main are young and know they are about as safe as crossing the road.

I respect them for getting out and protesting, but those young un's could pick it up at these protests then go home and pass it onto parents or other family members who may be more at risk.
