The idea, I think is that you keep people away from the bar where the staff will be spending most of their time. He's bending the rules a little by having people write orders on beermats and drop them on the bar rather than running around tables all the time when he's got 20 other things to be on with...

The rules will have to be different for each establishment. Wetherspoons has a staff of a dozen or more. We have one behind the bar until the weekend then it’s two. To have someone going table to table getting orders then bringing the beer back just isn’t on, costs will double.....

Thanks, I think I’ve said before that I believe table service increases risk to staff and customers as it brings a table full of people and staff together instead of one customer talking to staff at the bar. The industry is still talking to the government regarding these issues.....

Its incredible that people think everything is discussed and planned and in reality nothing has really advanced . I accept those at a higher level may be in heavy discussion but apart from having a deep clean , painting anything that isn’t moving , applying for a pavement licence wherever possible and looking to tape up the middle urinal I imagine everyone me the same and it’s all hurry up and wait .

I personally think good table service is doable though , whether it’s wholly appropriate with this I honestly don’t know but staffing wise I think it doesn’t take much to get it right especially with the inevitable reduce capacity.
