What they going to do if they cant find a vaccine - deny a whole generation their education?
What are people's thoughts on the furlough situation? I'm inclined to think that it's akin to an extended redundancy period, with a great many of those jobs that are currently furloughed going to be permanent redundancies eventually, yet I get a sense that many of those on it are treating them like an extended holiday and normal work will resume eventually. Could be a rude awakening when the furlough scheme ends, especially as many still seem to be operating under the belief that this virus will be a single wave and then done.

Lack of education doesn't seem to have done you MUCH harm.
Pardon? Lightyears perhaps xDifference is tbf we are 2 weeks behind mainland Europe and still have everywhere largely closed.
Come June 15th our deaths whilst not likely to be as low as those mentioned may drop to around the 100 per day level which is manageable.
And thats the key word - manageable. Lockdown never was the answer in eradicating the virus - it was to keep the infection level/deaths at a managed low rate as much as possible which we are doing.
Think back to the start of lockdown when 700-900 per day were dying and improvement has been made albeit not fast enough.

I’ve no idea what to expect when I go back, as I understood from what Sunak was saying, many people will be on a mix of paid and furloughed work until it’s deemed safe enough, that would be a relief for me as at present my pay is being determined based on what I earnt per month a year ago when I was on lower hours and isn’t being topped up with the extra 20%

I'd agree with most of that. As regards the general public I'd replace ignorant with selfishThe majority of the general public are ignorant bells and I generally vote green these days as both labour and tories are also ignorant bells.
You're confident that you will go back?
Im sure we were 2 weeks in regards to the virus hence why everyone was calling for lockdown as we were seeing what was happening in Italy, Spain etc.
So its slightly disingenuous to start comparing deaths in the UK to Europe when realistically they are 2 weeks ahead of the curve hence shops, barbers etc being open there and not here.
You get some posters on here who make personal insults to others as they lack the social skills having likely been dragged up themselves to debate sensibly why constantly opening up and then locking down things such as schools etc because of the virus will inevitably damage an entire generation of children in terms of their development and education.
Quite frankly without a vaccine we have to live amongst the virus as best we can - lockdown is and never has been a solution more so a delay tactic but you can only delay for so long without serious collateral damage to peoples livelihoods, the economy and childrens development.
I remember when a total of 20,000 deaths was going to be a good result!
It's a strange one, some people are looking at it as an extended break, thinking everything will go back the way it was,so no looking forward, others realise its gardening leave before redundancy,I know people whose aim has been finding the best offers on ale while others are checking how to better employment chances, college, uni, retraining, there is going to be a shock to a lot of people in the coming months/yearsWhat are people's thoughts on the furlough situation? Like Goat said, we were weeks ahead at one point, failed to act appropriately and accelerated through on our own truly special corona cruise trajectory.Im sure we were 2 weeks in regards to the virus hence why everyone was calling for lockdown as we were seeing what was happening in Italy, Spain etc.
