The decisions have to be a balance between suppressing the disease and avoiding people losing their livelihoods.

There is no ideal outcome here but I think we need to be balanced and flexible in our approach. People can't be kept inside forever. 10 weeks of this is starting to do lots of long term economic damage.
Which is precisely why we should have a working track and trace system in place before eating lockdown. If we ease too quickly, without the adequate systems in place to control the spread, we will likely have to spend another period in lockdown to compensate.

Yeah I dont get what people want tbh.

If we all had thousands in the bank and our mortgages paid off sound keep us indoors for 12 months but life has to go on at some point.

Aslong as folk wear face masks and wash their hands when going to shops / indoor leisure places as much as possible thats all you can ask for.
You could ask for a workable trace and trace system to be in effect to accompany good practice from the public.

Their scientists agree with you.
Said this so many times. TTI is essential to opening up again and there's still too many new infections about to contact trace effectively.

The main issue here is that the government can't make a target without it being turned into a deadline.

We're in the middle of a crisis. A target should be something to aim for providing the science is there to back it up. But it becomes a standard by which they are judged so they end up making political decisions.

I blame the media for this

For me, the issue is that we have people still banging the drum for complete suppression of the virus, when in reality it’s been shown that’s not possible, especially this far down the line. In reality we have a similar R number, which people obsessed over, as other countries when they took similar measures to us now.

Granted, everything this government touches seems to turn to excrement, but there’s been no massive second wave reported elsewhere. Why after banging the drum about how we should have learned from Italy, Spain etc early into this should we now ignore the fact that the worse case scenario that people have decided will happen, isn’t?
P
Probably because we in the UK were being primed for round twenty thousand deaths at their early daily briefings, we have soared way above this figure, so even by their own measures this is a horrendous miscalculation. Getting things wrong tends not to install confidence, especially when in this instance getting wrong means more death... Maybe abject failure is a Tory thing, not the Britain I want.

Has any knowledge/info been released yet on why some people recover completely without problems and others are left with long term organ damage? Is it a case of viral load?
