I am really sorry for you, but you were not the one‘s that were ill. Your Mum and dad weren’t looking after a young child. If they were I’m damn sure you would have arranged for the child to be brought near you. This is not about seeing your parents, it’s about having a child close enough to family in case of the worst.....

Oh Peter. The Cummings / Wakefield family, with a financial net worth in the multi-millions and with a massive social network in London, were not desperate for child care options. As Wakefield wrote herself - they were not incapacitated at the same time.

I know people here in Belgium who live alone and have been sick as dogs for a couple of weeks, quarantining by themselves, relying on neighbours to bring them food and supplies and leave them by the door. I've done shopping and cooked for 2 of them.

I know one who hasn't seen another human in person for 4 weeks. If only hed known he could have gone to his ma's house cos it was more convenient.

But it isn't one complete idiot. You are missing the point.

The people in charge of running the country and are in control of the pandemic management aren't adhering to the guidelines. It isn't just him, it's everyone in charge of this is doing the opposite of the guidelines.

So let me ask you one question, hyperthetically.

If the people setting the guidelines aren't keeping to them. Then how can you honestly say that it is accurate advice?
It doesnt need the actions of this govt and their advisors to change my mind on the Tory"s.
They always live without moral's or integrity ,history will verify that.

The fact that Boris Hancock Cummings and most of their advisors have had this wicked virus says it all.
They number more than anyone I know through family. workplace and my very large social circle.

So that tells me we have done anything & everything to get through this , so lets not adopt a foolhardy "if they can do that we can" attitude.
This govt have zero credability in their handling of this mess , fortunately the vast majority of the public have acted far better.

Yes but to get there he had to drive a very long distance - he will almost certainly have stopped at services directly exposing others to the virus that he knew he and his wife had.

They both could bave looked after their child even if they got ill (which as per her column she never did) - thousands of other parents have done so and are doing so right now. Or if it got really bad got help from relatives far closer than Durham and who were not in a vulnerable age group.
This is a fella who sat in on SAGE meeting, knowing the R numbers and the risk of spreading a virus, there is no excuse or defence for his actions

Assuming they had such a support group. His parents had an empty house next door to them to use. It meant their grandchild was only yards away if the child’s parents took badly. Any grandparent would have insisted that that is what should happen and I’m speaking as a grandparent......
THEY EXPOSED OTHER PEOPLE TO A DEADLY VIRUS ON THE OFF CHANCE THEY BOTH GOT SICK - what are you not getting about this Pete?!

Ok. Now imagine that your daughter and her partner both have coronavirus, and they have a young child, and they live miles from you. You have a guest house in your garden. Would you want them to stay there or leave them to it. Put the politics away, this is about family.....

...I know they wouldn’t travel, Pete. Her husband is a pharmacist. The risk of infection to others would be too much for them. She is paranoid about us getting sick and would not risk that outcome. Even now, she’s ultra-cautious, she knows how deadly this virus is because she sees well people deteriorating so quickly (her words not mine).

Simply, you are totally wrong. If my daughter had been in that position she’d undoubtedly have not done what Cummings did.

Pete, this is just the "as a mum" card as played on facebook by idiots who think they're special because they reproduced. It doesn't lend your argument any credence.

Grandparents or loads of hospitals in London?

Unfortunately, not even knowing about all this until reading it in here, and then having found out what he did and decided it was political noise, I just put myself in the position of the grandparent and commented accordingly. There is so much going on the world and the U.K. that I really cannot understand why everyone is up in arms. It’s political and nothing else....

Pete you're well off the mark here. Wakefield's parents live in London! If it was just about having family care for them, they could have stayed at her parents without leaving the city.

Did they have a spare detached house. If yes then fine, If no then They would have broken the rules.....
