Very rare that a Minister would fall on their sword for a SpAd - they sit outside the Civil Service pay structure for lots of reasons, but a key one being they can be dispensed with easily - but for a PM to lie to the nation to defend one on live TV is just incredible. It is a colossal error of judgement.

The other thing about what you are saying is that it is raw political capital. A few of them like Patel, Hancock despise Cummings because he wanted them moved on. Now he's burned through his favours (and then some).

The chief science officer didn't think he was putting anyone at risk by going out.

The prime minister didn't think it was dangerous to shake hands of covid patients.

If the people telling you to do something aren't adhering to the rules they have set themselves then can you really believe it?

Put everything aside for one moment, you are saying we need to do what the people telling us to do it aren't doing. Think about how ridiculous that sounds.

Everyone of you need to put the politics to one side for the moment. Our fight against this disease is in danger of disintegrating before our eyes just as we are about to start opening up the economy again. It's highly probable that lives, jobs and livelihoods will be lost because of this.

It's not just the PM though is it? The whole cabinet seem to have come out in support for someone who is democratically irrelevant. It's quite incredible, and you can only imagine what has made them back someone who is ostensibly wholly dispensable and put their reputations on the line. That's arguably the worst thing about all of this for me. You expect Tories to be complete shits, but to flagellate themselves for someone they ordinarily would dispense with like it was poo on their shoe strongly suggests he's quite happy to blow the biggest [Poor language removed] whistle you've ever seen about their dirty secrets.

Just because one complete idiot broke the rules doesnt justify the nation undoing all the many many sacrifices we have made in over 2 months.

And just remember this was the buffoon that wanted to let the virus run wild to create a herd immunity.

The people in charge of running the country and are in control of the pandemic management aren't adhering to the guidelines. It isn't just him, it's everyone in charge of this is doing the opposite of the guidelines.

So let me ask you one question, hyperthetically.

If the people setting the guidelines aren't keeping to them. Then how can you honestly say that it is accurate advice?
