Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Hundreds of ‘loved ones will die before their time’.

All your Boris had to add was ‘ah well’.

Being one of the groups most likely to catch and die from this virus, I tend to see things a bit differently from those younger members who are more concerned with getting their leg over. I don’t want to die, I want to see our new ground and I want to see my 7 year old granddaughter graduate. But if I had a choice of my dying or anyone else I would choose my own death. So if I make fun of this it’s because I am comfortable with what may happen, and when I defend the government approach it’s because I actually think it’s for the best. It would not have been my choice, but I’ll go with it.....

I don’t get it. Do they know that this thing is here to stay so they’re going with the herd immunity strategy? I’ve heard people in China have been infected twice so how does it work?

I was reading something one of the prominent doctors in this field in Germany said about the double infection. He doubted the accuracy of the testing process, that in those cases they were let out of hospital too early, after 5 days rather than 10 which is what it takes most people. He reckoned the swabs that were negative may not have reached far enough inside the throat to catch the presence of the virus. In his view he's pretty sure that once you've been infected and recovered you won't get it again.

Well written.

I accept your sentiments entirely and share the fear for our families. But your Boris is entirely out of step with Europe and you must question that. You must surely question the logic in this?

My advice is to keep yer chin up - reading this forum lately (and social media in general) is depressing and I dread to think how folk modern day would have coped during the Blitz or WW1, Great Depression etc.

Yes we have to take this seriously but too much fear causes anxiety/depression which lowers your immune system.

Bit of stiff upper lip and trying to go about your daily business is how I'll be living these next couple of months.

I suspect if you were old and/or sick you’d have less of a cavalier attitude about all this. No one gives a crap if you get this thing it’s the vulnerable people you might recklessly pass it onto.

“In 2019 – before the outbreak of coronavirus began – a global survey found that around 20 per cent of people believed that vaccination against disease not only didn’t work, but in fact was actively dangerous. These people had been hoodwinked by an anti-vaxxer movement that relies on emotion and obscures the science, but the impacts of such irrationality are stark. Last year, the UK lost its measles-free status, the pernicious legacy of the anti-MMR campaigners who wrongly linked the jab to cases of autism. Parents who wanted to protect their children ended up harming them instead.
As the anti-vaxxers show, a gut feeling is no substitute for science, or for rationality. All sorts of decisions that may seem counterintuitive to a lay person will be readily explained by an expert. It is for this very reason that now, with coronavirus presenting the most profound public health crisis in living memory, we should not be tempted to gainsay the advice of the experts – in particular the Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty, and Sir Patrick Vallance, the government’s Chief Scientific Adviser, who yesterday gave such a clear and measured explanation of why the UK is reacting as it is to Covid-19”....

Believe me when you have kids of your own one day and they rely on you to be the one to tell them everythings going to be okay when they are scared it gives you perspective.

Basically if I become a raging fanny and break down then what chance do the little ones have? Simply put get up, dust yourself down and get on with your life.

And yes that doesnt mean high fiving everyone whilst letting folk cough in your face - its basically chin up and not sat 24/7 glued to twitter reading doomsday stories whipping themselves with into hysteria as alot of people seem to be doing.

What you cant control you shouldnt worry about.

How can you sit there and comfortably type this knowing you could possibly one day kill someone with that kind of behaviour?

If that’s accurate then the strategy of “cocooning” the vulnerable whilst we all get it and ride it out would actually make a lot of sense. It’ll likely be painful in the short term

I can't believe your gouvernement is doing nothing. How's that possible???

We just isolated our country with 70 cases only.

I think these threads have shown that you are vastly over reacting to this mate.

Simply put what do you expect people to do - not go to work? Not be around friends/family?

Maybe you live an isolated life I dont know but simply put the vast majority of everyday folk will be getting on with their lives (whilst obviously being sensible like not travelling to Italy or washing hands regulary).

You seem to be terrified of this which is fine but believe me stop reading the 24/7 news and doomsday social media and you'll start to feel better - I guarantee you'll still be alive in 12 months time.
