Cos they get infected. Hence why the NHS use single use PPE, (when they have enough). I am not suggesting wearing them is useless, I am suggesting that wearing them is not quite the game changer you seem to think it is.

You made a point denigrating a poster who quoted some Irish medics with the wonderful line that hand hygiene is still vital after wearing gloves. That kinda proves that they are at best, a placebo amongst non medical folk.
They;re not a placebo, how can they be a placebo for the public and vital for health workers?

Face masks and latex gloves: the debate is only a debate because of the supply of PPE. Governments and health organisations are desperate to get as many as they can. That's fair enough, but it;s an altogether different arument to suggest they are ineffective or virus spreaders in ther hands of the public. That gear, if used repsonsibly, can help cut down the transmission of a virus in the general population.

There are way too many times when political / logistic priorities are backing up poor evaluation on what is and what's not helpful in terms of avoiding infection.

My county seems to be abandoning most of the measures. Kohl's (a department store with a clientele that consists of mostly old people) is gonna be opening up. And the beer garden will be opening in the park by mine, because being responsible and drinking go hand in hand (also 90% of the people there have to drive to get there).
.

I'm not arsed going out for a while, I'll give it another month quite happily and see how the experiment goes.

Nope. You censured @Nymzee, who errs toward caution: gloves on.

If he wants to take a belt and braces approach to staying virus free why on earth would you encourage him not to?

We have enough 'individuals' in this country who cant be arsed to
My parents wipe down their shopping when they get it delivered!

As we should all do mate.

* My missus does ours, there`s no way I`m sitting there for half an hour to wipe it all down lol

Quite a lot of evidence now that mask wearing has a decent cost benefit both at an individual level and a societal one.

@RAFUH iirc you previously advised against gloves but recommended mask - that correct?
The WHO, as does much of the advice, states that gloves, just like any surface can get contaminated. So regular hand washing is the best approach to take.

Because the spread is mostly through respiration and via droplets a mask is beneficial, whereas gloves still have the same challenges as applied to any surface.

Still pro mask wearing?

Yes, although data are mixed on non-medical versions largely because there’s not standardization.

When possible multilayered, tightly woven material Is what you want.
I’ve bought several online, including Everton themed (they‘re cheap crap, natch) in order to find decent ones worth the nuisance of wearing.

Had to get my car inspected and oil changed last week. I was the only one wearing a mask with 5 other customers and 1 employee.
