Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Given the predictions of a second wave quantifying how costly a delay in lockdown can be seems pretty useful info for forward planning.
True.

However I would question how accurate that report is. The stay at home message from the government was actually given out a week before the lockdown. Where I live that message was taken very seriously. On the Tuesday my wife had a meeting with her boss at a local National Trust house. It was a beautiful spring day and we decided to go for lunch at a popular local pub. (I know !!!, I'll PM you a photo so you can stick it n your dartboard lol). It was empty LL. On a normal nice day it would expect to do 50/60 covers and we were the only 2 people in there. Apparently their sister pub, which is an extremely popular pub on the banks of the Helford River, was exactly the same. On the Friday of the lockdown, we had managed to book a table at a new local Michael Caines (an English celebrity chef who you've probably never heard of) restaurant that had only opened a week earlier. In normal circumstances you wouldn't be able to get near the place on a weekend but we booked a table the day before. As it happened we cancelled following the shut down announcement. But it was clear from personal experience that most people in Cornwall had, by that stage, stopped going out anyway. I can't speak for the rest of the country obviously, but from the number of news reports requesting more clarity from the government regarding pubs and restaurants, I certainly formed the impression that it was pretty much the ame around the country.

Also I'm sure I saw that the peak of daily deaths and new hospitalisations tallied with the time that the government gave the initial stay at home message, rather than the actual lockdown which came a week later. I'd have understood the message more if it had said that 75% of the deaths could have been avoided had the shut down been implemented 14 days earlier rather than 7. Anyway, that's a decision that those in the Government and within the circle of advisors will have to live with. I'm 100% positive it wasn't made with any malice or intent to cause death.

We're now trailing a 20 min test to see if you have it.
Interesting development.
The latest bit of BS to keep the sheep from pointing their cloven hoofs at them.

I wouldn't believe a word out the mouths of these liars. Especially from the mouth of that 'kin scumbag HanCOCK.

Interesting article on the role of copper and how it can prevent viruses from spreading (e.g., hospital doorknobs are copper). A seemingly balanced article on the use of copper masks:

It might leave a nasty taste on your mouth & a smell on your face, but it may work , but a bit drastic imo.... a mask always Yes imo from day one... there are quality masks about if you look but they are expensive - any dust mask imo is not that great , but better than nothing......
plus my late father who worked at BICC in a copper cable plant died youg his clothing stunk of copper -

Intentionally high intakes of copper can cause liver and kidney damage and even death. We do not know if copper can cause cancer in humans. EPA does not classify copper as a human carcinogen because there are no adequate human or animal cancer studies

Would you wear a mask to stop getting infected, or to stop spreading it?

I amazed we can't just get these rolled out to people, who could then crack on and visit relatives etc.

What difference does that make? It's a question of best practice...if I had them I'd wear them.

Cos they get infected. Hence why the NHS use single use PPE, (when they have enough). I am not suggesting wearing them is useless, I am suggesting that wearing them is not quite the game changer you seem to think it is.

You made a point denigrating a poster who quoted some Irish medics with the wonderful line that hand hygiene is still vital after wearing gloves. That kinda proves that they are at best, a placebo amongst non medical folk.

It works both ways but protection is better for you ..... I have not been allowed out, but from day one I purchased good masks for my wife and son -I treated it like spraying chemicals in my Horticultural days - keep safe very sceptical of the first government advice of masks not to be worn....... rubber gloves also if shopping handling trolley's etc and opening the shop doors...

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't suck on a copper penny to ward off corona! But it appears that it can trap/prevent viral replication if woven into some fabrics--something I never knew. But with anything...there are serious downsides to a seemingly promising remedy.

Yes, you left out his last sentence:

"we do not recommend using gloves while doing your shopping or when you are out and about. If there are bugs on your gloves those bugs often end up on your hands when you take the gloves off and from there they can very easily end up in your mouth, nose and eyes....there is still a need to perform hand hygiene when the gloves come off."

So, essentially, here's what you're saying: it's no worse for you to touch food in a supermarket with bare hands than if you wore disposable gloves, took them off and binned them then washed your hands / made them hygienic without touching your face. Even though someone's bare hands are exposed when having cuts or abrasions causing skin cracking.

You're just plain wrong on this. I dont care how many times you quote doctors out of context.

Have you been drinking ?

All I said to Nymzee was that wearing gloves in public is unnecessary and depending on the medical professional you ask can cause more danger of virus transmission.

You decided that as a result I was somehow going to cause a second wave that will kill millions, by repeating medical advice.

As others have said, you're a parody account at this point.
