Were you one of them ?.....
Suggesting the UK should prioritise life over the economy. Yes I was.

It's a pretty daft question given that I have a statutory obligation under many prices of legislation to 'safeguard the well-being of the public' or 'protect life and health'.

I don't have any such obligation to ensure that pubs stay open, for example.

Because we live in a democracy seems a pretty good reason to start with.
It's not even merely the general public as such that need such information.

With regards to schools, I was reading that the scientific report that the government's decision to reopen is based upon will be released no later than the 28th.

Aren't schools meant to go back on the 1st? Now, I'm not saying we the public aught to know every snippet of information that the government holds.

But, you'd expect something like this, even summarised, should be in the public realm already if the decision has already been made. Why isn't it ready?

Forgive me if I misunderstand here but your point seems to be 'dont let the public inform themselves, just keep them complaint'.

The Government have advised people to use their common sense rather than prescribe a set criteria. If people are allowed freedom to move freely to work, shouldn't they be allowed the freedom to see information that supports that decision?

They're already not compliant though are they? I'm all for info like this being available once things have calmed down but tons of places already act like lockdown is over without needing more reason to resent and go against what the goverment put out for us every day.

The irony that it is the "Tories" giving out this "free money" to "shirkers" seems completely lost on you. It is not the Tories who are currently spreading this bile and creating these divides, it is the people in the media and on social media, and in my opinion they need to rein it in. Starting Now.

I'm one of the very few on here who believes that politics shouldn't be playing a part in fighting this virus. It's a global crisis not evidenced since the last world war, and we need to work together to come through it. That includes being understanding of other people's feelings and worries, because not everybody is going to be affected by this in the same way.

I haven't any issues with mistakes being criticised, nor bad decisions being questioned. But some of the stuff on here goes well beyond that. Further down the line there will be a time for recriminations, but not now when we are in the middle of the crisis. At this stage we don't even know how long this crisis will last and whether they will ever find an effective vaccine.

Hopefully there will be a reckoning one day in the form of a thorough and independent inquest. Anybody who has acted outside the law should be prosecuted, and the same with anybody who is guilty of gross misconduct within their workplace. I would also hope that those who have performed their jobs badly within the various government institutions, and in that I include permanent as well as political positions, also face some sort of reparation. The main thing though is that we need to learn from the findings to ensure they never happen again.

We're a long long way from that point at the moment though, and all those that want to impose immediate recriminations are doing little more than hindering the already very difficult job of getting through this virus.

Great post.

Again, as said above, why does the general public need this info? They just need to know when they're in lockdown.

We want people as on board with the gov as possible to keep following their instructions. All this in the media makes people hate them even more and I reckon would drive some to go against what they say. @JEBUS_LIVES

It amuses me that you think we are still under lockdown.

Have you not been outside this week?

Surely more reason to inform people better.

The information isn't your problem here, it's people uneducated about the risk to them and others and people leveraging that lack of awareness for political advantage.

It's precisely the lack of this type of information available to the public and inabity to make informed decisions that allows politicians to make political capital in these scenarios.
