Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

The irony that it is the "Tories" giving out this "free money" to "shirkers" seems completely lost on you. It is not the Tories who are currently spreading this bile and creating these divides, it is the people in the media and on social media, and in my opinion they need to rein it in. Starting Now.

It isnt lost on me.

The Tories have had to pivot hugely away from their fiscal ideology due to the current circumstances.

However, they have poisoned the well for many years prior with their shirkers narrative, which is still prevent amongst elements of the public as a result.

Yeh LFE but that's usually done after or almost after an event not smack down in the middle.

"If we'd have closed all airports in 1999 we would have had less COVID deaths." <<< as equally pointless a few months into a pandemic.
Not really. You might have a final debrief, but you shouldn't stop evaluating your actions purely because they are inconvenient.

The sensible and responsible thing to do is look to learn as you go. Now if the evidence tells you lockdown came too late, next time hopefully the same mistakes won't be made.

Which can all be kept private is my point. It's just political sniping and riles up an already on edge nation.

I dunno if they need stats though to work out they'd need to lockdown sooner if a spike was incoming (suspect they wouldn't anyway).
Well they didn’t seem to know the first time when it seemed bloody obvious so I’d say this data was a useful reminder and most especially if they are considering not doing another lockdown if cases increase past a certain level.

Again, as said above, why does the general public need this info? They just need to know when they're in lockdown.

We want people as on board with the gov as possible to keep following their instructions. All this in the media makes people hate them even more and I reckon would drive some to go against what they say. @JEBUS_LIVES

The story literally says we could have locked down a WEEK earlier, it doesnt mention 1999 you tory twitter bot.

But his point is that we could have locked down 2 weeks earlier and saved even more lives. In fact if we had locked down 2 months earlier there would be far fewer deaths. But of course we didn’t really know did we, even people on here were saying it’s just a cold/flu, and that’s the rub isn’t it, at what point do you decide to close your economy and potentially put millions out of work. If the government closed everywhere down and very few actually died, then the same people would be saying they overreacted and put people on the dole. The government may have got it wrong, but who within the U.K. was saying anything different at the time ?.....

Because we live in a democracy seems a pretty good reason to start with.

Forgive me if I misunderstand here but your point seems to be 'dont let the public inform themselves, just keep them complaint'.

The Government have advised people to use their common sense rather than prescribe a set criteria. If people are allowed freedom to move freely to work, shouldn't they be allowed the freedom to see information that supports that decision?
