It works both ways but protection is better for you ..... I have not been allowed out, but from day one I purchased good masks for my wife and son -I treated it like spraying chemicals in my Horticultural days - keep safe very sceptical of the first government advice of masks not to be worn....... rubber gloves also if shopping handling trolley's etc and opening the shop doors...

So every time your wife or son come home after shopping, you disinfect the masks and gloves?

I disagree, why wait till its over?

Its still happening, the tory death cult is still making mistakes that are costing people their lives.

Their inaction, their incompetence is killing people now, so why wait for more to die before we demand they do better?

When its all over, most people will sigh and say "phew, thank God thats over", they wont be looking for who to blame, they will just be glad its over and they get away with it, AGAIN.
With respect Goat I think most of that's total spunk. I agree that incompetence has cost lives. But you can't change decisions that have already been made. You don't know for a fact that decisions being made now are also costing more lives. Time will tell. Getting retribution now before this is over will serve no purpose, unless you want to replace the whole government and senior civil servants and scientists who are providing the advice. And there is no way that this will be just forgotten when it is over. Absolutely zero chance. It will be the biggest inquest/hearing ever held in this country, and we'll be feeling the economical repercussions of this for years if not decades.

Doubt it. I think I didn't most of it messing about. I'm flattered you ghink me posting on here has significant impact on the UK decision making process though.

What I will say is that the scientific suggestions in the early stages of the response was that China, who had severe restrictions in place, had effectively curtailed the outbreak and that similar measures in the UK should be considered.

Actually @davek was calling for the complete shutdown of sport a few weeks before the lockdown if I remember correctly. Mind you I think that was more to do with stopping the RS winning the league...or his Chinese handlers were giving him a heads up......

Without wanting to diminish their efforts it's probably much easier to enforce good measures in a traditionally nomadic country where the population is just above 3m.

Although, about half of that population live in Ulanbator I think. But I imagine it's easier to confine one major city spread rather than numerous areas of high population all interconnecting.

Interesting article on the role of copper and how it can prevent viruses from spreading (e.g., hospital doorknobs are copper). A seemingly balanced article on the use of copper masks:

Yep, It has long been known about the disinfecting qualities of Brass and Copper, which is why most doorknobs and doorplates were made from them....

Quite a lot of evidence now that mask wearing has a decent cost benefit both at an individual level and a societal one.

@RAFUH iirc you previously advised against gloves but recommended mask - that correct?

My concerns with folk wearing them is they get a false sense of protection, dont sanitise them after use, and in many cases, the masks they get from B&Q are medically, poor.
