He went on to back it up with this in the comments

He does usually back up what he says if he's saying it's factual and does say when it's his opinion.
Sorry, the article is behind a paywall and I scan read a few pages of the comments and didn’t see his name mentioned - can you post it directly?

The temperature theory is interesting and I’ve posted a few things on it earlier in the thread so would like to read his more detailed take.

As Goat says, there's a lot that can be learned from other countries but also we can't assume that something that works there works here. Asian schools have undoubtedly better discipline, Danish schools have smaller class sizes and so on. That is not to say we can't utilise successful techniques but I think we always have to be mindful of the state of discipline and overcrowding in the average British school.

Yes my point about safeguarding wouldn't apply necessarily to Primary schools, but still, trying to temperature check hundreds of little kids sounds like a logistical nightmare. A much bigger one than providing PPE. So if we're not in a position to do that, then I'm not sure how temperature checks could happen any time soon. But again, as a teacher, I'd welcome every type of protective measure. There are no downsides to temperature checking, just obstacles that would have to be overcome.

Hopefully, if nothing else, the June 1st deadline will focus minds on figuring out a safe way for things to re-open.

Testing going up yet cases coming down is exactly what you want to see so that is encouragin.

Its definitely good news, the UK doing better and better as the weeks are going on, clawing bit by bit.

Lifted lock down a tad to early for me and the efficacy of home testing i think still hold some concerns for me but, turning it around bit by bit.

Interestingly, if you look at the UK federally, and micro apply modeling to areas, some areas you would suspect are far less risk then others. Be interesting to apply an R0 to regions as well as nationally, well currently anyway.

I've long wondered could a federal system of managing badly hit areas, like the US, be better applied to European countries, to assist in managing clusters and outbreaks as opposed to national lock downs. I suppose it goes against the grain of civil liberties and rights and not the easiest to police, but could have its value. Interesting debate anyway.

I'm not optimistic as the Government thus far haven't changed any policies or produced any new data. And I would be surprised if the unions back down as contrary to certain media headlines, they have the near full support of teachers.

Fingers crossed something sensible comes out of it all though.

Disgusting conference at the moment. Still not producing "the science" and trying to guilt trip teachers with emotional pleas about the most vulnerable children needing to be in school. Ignoring of course that schools are indeed still open for vulnerable pupils and always have been.

Funny how Eton won't be opening until September.

Also funny how the Tories have suddenly decided now that they are concerned about the education of disadvantaged children as they think they can use it as a pretence to force teachers and children into an unsafe situation in order that their parents can also be forced back into often unsafe workplaces themselves.

Well yes, child poverty is up 38% under the Tories decade long reign. Source here. So the hypocrisy is certainly not lost on teachers, who work with these kids day in, day out.

As you say, they will use anything that makes them look good. They compared deaths globally up until we were the worst in Europe, then of course it's "difficult to compare countries". They hammered on about the R-rate for 3 weeks and now it's gone up they are playing it down.
