Now that the lockdown has ended (and it has), the Scottish, English and Welsh tourist hotspots will have to open their doors very soon.

The Welsh in particular are bordering on being racist with their ongoing campaign against the English tourists.

The UK government need to get on top of this before the UK does become well and truly fractured.

It's terrible when people take something as arbitrary as nationality to discriminate against others, isn't it? There are worrying signs that nations will increasingly do this, with movement of people opened up for people from certain areas that have seemingly got the virus under control. Thankfully, the actions of the British over the past few years have not laid the groundwork for this resurgence in nationalism :coffee:

This whole school conundrum has brought to the forefront years of under investment in schools. If we hadn't allowed class sizes generally to balloon it would be an easier conversation to have with how you slowly phase in classes.

I don't see how you can square the circle of fifteen in a class when the average is more than double that ?
My wife is in a private school and class size is 22 max with some classes 9-10 pupils
They are struggling to do social distancing when schools re open
Either double the number of teachers ,which means bigger school buildings or a mix of home learning online and class lessons with pupils doing 2 or 3 days at home every week

From Peirced Organ (PS sorry for reading the mail but I did was my hands and eyes after)

Putting aside the recklessness of this move, which I fear is the same mistake made in 1918 when the world tried to return to normality too early after the first wave of the Spanish Flu only for the second wave to be massively more devastating.

This is my concern.

As the Swedish epidemiologist said yesterday, lockdown measures are only ever a stopgap measure to ensure health systems aren't overwhelmed. The problem in Britain seems to be that many regard lockdown measures as something that was supposed to stop the virus dead in its tracks, and we would return to normal after the lockdown ended. I'm not sure that was ever the deal on the table.

Something else to consider, of course, is that it's well known that poorer children regress (intellectually) over the school holidays, so a prolonged absence from school will have a significant impact on the poorest members of society.

Mentioned it last week but an absolutely horrific situation unfolding in Mexico. Their figures look five times underestimated, could be potentially the worst impacted countries and populations we have seen so far. the countries make up is a perfect storm for the virus in many ways.

You wonder will we see problems at the border again.
It will give Trump another reason (not that he needs any ) to put ..............

In the past few years, my wife's school has went from one form entry to two form entry by partitioning their once quite large classrooms into two separate rooms.

They're struggling to fit fifteen in each room and adequately social distancing, but now the government's advice is not to run a rota system.

Whatever your thoughts or opinions on the end of lockdown all of the UK should be singing from the same hymn sheet.

If Scotland and Wales want to play silly buggers I would threaten to restrict their funding if I were Boris.
That would see them fall into line quite quickly.
We should all fall into line with the most sensible set of rules irregardless of which home nation makes them.

The Uk government call the shots, let’s not pretend otherwise.

If the home nations don’t fall into line fairly quickly I think they’ll find some pain coming their way.

The welsh people are still in lockdown, they have no problem with English people in general, only the thick selfish bellends who think our country is their playground. I live here and guess what ?? I can’t visit any of the places I’d like to go. So no, it isn’t bordering on racism at all, it’s self protection.
It’s like somebody said, we are fighting two diseases here, Covid and stupidity.

If there is a strike or protest you can guarantee the teachers are right at the front of it.

Kids, especially those from the poorest backgrounds, need to get back to school.

Teachers... do what you are paid to do or go and get another job.

There are legitimate concerns about the safety of their workplace. A further compromise will hopefully be reached.

Teachers are also underpaid for the work they have to do.

I don't understand what causing others pain will accomplish if it means we gain nothing but a point scoring exercise that causes more resentment that the independence movements of those countries can show as how out of touch Westminster and England is with Scotland or Wales.

Funding for devolved administrations is calculated by HMT using the Barnett formula. It isn't subject to policy changes on a whim.
