Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

That's what people need to do: ignore the new advice (apart from face coverings and extending the distance needed to get out and exercise...that does no harm) and sit tight.

*Luckily* I am able to do just that. Plenty of others are not so fortunate. So in their bubbles they just need to be sensible.

Im looking for a partner in crime for my dobie and every dog breeder ive spoken too says puppies/dogs are selling fast.

Going to be alot of dogs in shelters I fear when lockdown is over and everyone is back to work & out to the pub on weekends with the dog left alone to be destructive.

Anyone looking fore the hassle of shifting homes now must be desperate, I suppose.

But the main point was over allowing this activity, but not allowing family visits.

Another contradiction.

Not if you actually think it through. Viewing a house involves a couple visiting a house and meeting an Estate Agent. Keeping a distance, the agent shows you around, you ask questions and leave. Family visits can involve parents and children visiting grandparents, you hug or kiss each other, the kids are jumping on granddads lap, and you are there for at least an hour. It’s a totally different scenario, and I would think a lot of medical people would agree with this policy.....

It appears the Government didn't consult the Department for Education on the reopening of schools. If that is the case,
then it beggars belief.

From the BBC

The Department for Education's chief scientific adviser, Osama Rahman, appearing before the Science and Technology Committee, said decisions around opening schools, such as which year groups went back first, had not been taken by the department.

Asked whether he had assessed the safety guidance given to schools and how it might be implemented, the DFE's scientific adviser told MPs: "I haven't."

As such he was unable to say what evidence was behind the decision to reopen schools - or to say how many under-18s had died from the virus.

And Mr Rahman told MPs there was only "low confidence" in evidence suggesting that children transmit Covid-19 any less than adults.

Oh the guidance/advice given at the weekend was so opaque. It was like they were almost trying too hard to get "normal" asap.

I have just carried on in our little bubble.

It was opaque, but other than issuing everyone with a six hundred page manual it started the process. The details have followed and even been subtly amended by today. People want to be treated as adults, well now they have the chance to prove it. The ‘guidance’ is absolute common sense and statements of the bleeding obvious. Of course those that never agree with this government on anything have gone into deliberate obtuse mode....

I'm sure a few dog botherers on here will help you out.

That's not today.

That's registered in last 24 hours. Deaths could have occured anytime in the last 2 months

The key stat isn't really deaths; it's the newly infected combined with the amount of tests done.

As it stands, testing is generally maintaining the same level, gradually growing, while new cases are decreasing.

A nice stat to have is how many of the newly infected are in care homes etc. because that way we'd have a better idea of how prevalent it is in the wider community.

Why is that a surprise? They didn't consult the Police before announcing the lockdown measures / fines, and didn't consult Khan before saying everyone would be back to work so he had to put more buses and tube trains on.
