If This talk of discharging care home residents from hospital despite knowing they had covid is true then some of the hyperbole in this thread is going go start hitting feeling a little real .
Been battle with between NHS and Community Services ever since Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)was a thing!

Interesting article about the elderly and care homes.

'Harvesting' is a terrible word – but it's what has happened in Britain's care homes

"If herd immunity was the initial strategy outlined by advisers, they would have known that harvesting older people could not be part of the equation. This isn’t about science or politics – it’s a simple question of humanity. If the government’s strategy was to allow the virus to spread through the wider population, albeit at a slowed pace, residents in nursing homes would need to be protected.

But this is not what happened. The initial strategy of allowing herd immunity to develop in the wider community was pursued, but the most vulnerable people were not protected. Though harvesting may not have been the government’s intention, it became the de facto policy in the absence of adequate protections for older and vulnerable people. Had the government monitored care homes, supplied adequate PPE, rolled out testing in care homes and reduced the exposure of their residents to visitors and other carers, the islands of vulnerable and elderly people would have been protected"

From the Mail.

"Hospitals may have broken the law by sending patients with Covid-19 back to care homes without telling their managers they had the virus.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has been told that several hospitals returned people despite suspecting – or even knowing – they were infected.

Tragically, these patients triggered outbreaks in the homes, claiming the lives of other vulnerable residents. Staff at the care homes would have not realised they had the virus so may not have been wearing adequate protective clothing or taken other infection control precautions.

The CQC is investigating several cases after being informed by care home managers that hospitals discharged patients into their premises without telling them they had the disease.

Kate Terroni, the watchdog’s chief inspector of adult social care, said: ‘We have heard of a few incidents where this has happened and it has resulted in infections spreading to other residents in the care home".

I think it's becoming clear that there have been numerous sources for the outbreak of infection within Europe, and that the Chinese source of it is one of many.

The Liverpool-Atletico match will go down in infamy. History books will show it to have been a massive disaster to allow it to go ahead, and those responsible for a massive death toll in the city will be HM Government, UEFA and Liverpool FC.

Astounding, we are so quick to react...;)

In my country (Lebanon, a 3rd World developing country with huge economical problems + 2 million refugees for small country, total population around 6 millions) we had our first confirmed case on February 21, February 29 we closed our schools/universities and banned gatherings, March 6 restaurants and pubs were closed, March 10 the first death with a total of 50 cases, March 15 we went into lock-down and closed our borders including the airport, on April 5 we started bringing in flights for Lebanese struck abroad, they all get tested at the airport and quarantined for 14 days, total cases 800 with 26 deaths, we had 20 deaths on April 10th, the past month we had 6 deaths, daily cases now are 2-3 locals and 20-30 from the travelers, our airport will remain closed (only bringing few flights per day for those who are stuck abroad with a strict policy of testing and quarantining), lock-down was removed 2 weeks ago, life is 70% back to normal.

Out of interest, what is the death toll in Liverpool?

It’s been covered already tbh mate.

Patients weren't being routinely tested when being discharged till something like mid-April. It's not so much that known COVID patients were being purposefully discharged to care homes, it's more, at best, it wasn't considered to be a risk, or, at worse, it was considered to be an acceptable risk needed to free up beds.

As it happens, a lot of the beds freed up weren't needed, but, to be fair to those making the decisions, they weren't to know that.

The current guidelines say it's OK to discharge COVID patients to care homes, but only if those care homes are able to properly isolate those patients.

Or as it`s becoming increasingly clear, that your beloved CCP kept it under wraps, whilst it spread unknown around the rest of the world.

I tend to share your opinion mate, the world is scrambling to blame a particular country, particularly those who have poorly managed this so far, unfortunately pandemics are inevitable.

That doesn't take away from poor management though, Cheltenham and the Mordor Vs Madrid game was a virus soup - as you say they will go down in infamy in incompetence. I was looking at the numbers in the north west last night comparatively to the rest of the UK, when you look for reasons you have to look at that fixture, the cost is horrific. Though Cheltenham also spread the virus to every corner of these isles as a national and international event across a spectrum of villages, towns, cities and countries and likely compounded things in the north west.

The agenda you push is tired and bankrupt.

It's now orthodoxy that there is more than one source for this virus. You need to find another drum to bang out your Cold War BS.
