Are the Germans celebrating that?
No, but that’s not the point. You’re right that wars do kill people, however that conveniently ignores the context of that actual war, its cause and what occurred.

I think this a sensible call for a lot of reasons: the idea of public transport getting anywhere near normal is concerning; it'll be a big help for the environment.

If This talk of discharging care home residents from hospital despite knowing they had covid is true then some of the hyperbole in this thread is going go start hitting feeling a little real .
It's never been unreal. What we are witnessing in this country is institutionalised murder. The rest of the world look on in horror at what's happening here.

Well Mrs B made Bully attend a VE Day street party yesterday.

It all started off with social distancing being used to the max.

However after a few Shandies a few ignored the restraints and by the end of the evening you would have thought Covid-19 was a thing of the past.

Bully kept his distance though and eventually made his excuses to return safely indoors.

I dread to think what happens in two weeks.

Desperate ones I suspect. It's a seller's market.
No, wars kill people. People need to realised that and stop being obsessed.
I can understand the massive celebration at the end of the war but maybe our response should be more sombre these days and look back and never forget the damage done to dead and the living who survived this horrific part of our history
It should not be used ad an excuse for a piss up.

Well I never knew that. I thought the two armies just lined up had a good look at who was likely to win and then assigned a result that way.

In all seriousness I find the scone and lindyhop festival that VE day has become a bit odd. Most of you werent alive then, the reason they celebrated then was the removal of an existential threat and the prospect of you/your dad/brother/mates/husband being sent around the world potentially never to return. Then we had another 8 years of rationing and a famine in mainland Europe.
