There was a suicide in the flat opposite mine yesterday. Definitely one of many due to this lock up.
Why has Boris decided to wait till Sunday before telling people what his strategy is ?
Many people will be out there breaking the rules assuming it is all going to change anyway.
Does he even know what he is going to do?
Nicola Sturgeon was far more impressive as a leader decisive and putting people's health first.
It probably hasn't helped that B&Q (etc.) and the supermarkets have continued to sell cuttings, so the balance in the industry has swung towards them.My mates a manger of garden centre type store.
Over £20k of fresh flowers and plants he literally binned as he couldn't justify paying staff to come in and water them not knowing when he could re open.
That's not a lot of loss for some places, but was massive for that store.
If he had stayed open he would have made serious money in hindsight. It probably hasn't helped that B&Q (etc.) and the supermarkets have continued to sell cuttings, so the balance in the industry has swung towards them.
I'm not saying that those above are wrong to sell horticultural stuff because they need to survive and prosper themselves, but it must be galling for the others.
however, I do know that a garden centre not too far from us (Aigburth Hall Nurseries) is actually open.
True, it's easy to say in hindsight what people could or should have done. I'm not sure how they (our local one) has got around it unless it was their cafe?If he had stayed open he would have made serious money in hindsight.
They sell fancy Gin and could potentially have got round it that way ?
But it's a tough call to make when you need to look after your staff.
( unlike a football manager it would seem )
Send an invite to @Tipp blue. Makes a quality brisket (see BBQ thread)Sod this I’m having a BBQ and inviting all my mates over.
Still maintaining social distancing as I’ve got none.

Cafes will be shut though .....main source of income ....Maybe garden centres opening where it's easy to socially distance
Non-essential shops have been.
The point is that shops not opened for ages are beginning to.
Testing....So how come Germany are doing so well, do you think?
Yeah it was Neil Fergusons science that locked the place down. Same guy who got caught breaking his own rules to see the woman he's having an affair with lol couldn't make it up.I don’t think we are that far apart in our thinking Brendan. I agree that lockdown is damaging in many respects and that there has to be an easing of restrictions but only when scientifically proven save to do so.
Undoubtedly there are people who are suffering now because the system had failed them already and lockdown has made it even worse. Despite that, I am not getting a sense from Downing St that this, or anything like it, is what is driving their imminent plan to ease restrictions.
At the outset of the pandemic we were told that it was science that had advised the complete lockdown of society. Surely now it is reasonable to expect the same clear statement from the medical experts that the situation has now changed and life can begin to get back to normal? If we don’t get this unambiguous advice then I suggest it is safe to assume that the health of the nation is not the driving concern behind the Government’s proposals.
