America is a different kettle of fish than most countries over there money rules more than anywhere else in the world and people don't like to be told what to do and it's seen as an attack on freedom. It would take a very brave president to shut everything down and tell people that they won't have as much money and they have to stay at home.
Plenty of our governors have done it, even in the face of armed protestors.

Why haven't they at least announced you can go and visit people at their home?

That's all people really care about deep down, nothing about going the beach or having a piss up. For many people including myself, it's being able to go and visit my mum who has been by herself for the past 7 weeks. That alone would make the world of difference to many people who can then travel to family

I think that's what's going to be allowed mate.

The issue is that the guidelines have to be very clear and not giving the wrong message: do you mean go and stand at the door or go in and socialise?

If it's the latter, I think that we'd have even more cases of more than one household meeting up and socialising; you'll have people who will take the Michael.

I drop things off for my mum each week, knock on the door stand at the end of the path (probably seven or eight metres away) and we have a brief chat.

That's perfectly fine and legal. I'd be annoyed (I'm being pleasant there) if some of my relatives started turning up at her house because she's still at a high risk.

Basically, I think that they would need to clearly define and enforce what constitutes as visiting and who you can visit.

Can any Americans here explain why these unqualified "philanthropists" are being allowed these levels of responsibility? Shouldn't it be people with actual medical licenses like doctors etc? And or politicians who have been voted in by the people? Absolutely bizarre that Gates views himself as some sort of voice of experience on this, even more bizarre that people buy it. He can't even protect Windows from a virusScreenshot_20200507_202719_com.huawei.android.launcher.jpg

...and cultural differences.

Maybe, for example, Asian women are susceptible to more infection by not being able to be self isolated from a family member if they have it? I dont know, but that seems possible.

Also, why not look into the white population for differences? It;s well known that some individuals form a Celtic background have a condition from iron deficiency for example. Does that not suggest that within the white population some may have a possible susceptibility to Covid19 than others?
Haemochromatosis its called Dave
The exact opposite of an Iron deficency.
The body cant process and eliminate iron and stores it in the kidneys and liver causing other problems
Its often referred to as the Celtic gene

Because if you announce people can go and visit others at home the infection rate will shoot back up again.

What if one person has four or five kids, who all visit with their partners, etc.

There's a big issue there then when money dictates science. No?

Unfortunately there has to be a balance because money (or, the economy) also = lives.

'Scientifically' the solution is surely wait for a vaccine. That's why you get scientists saying stuff like no crowds for anything for two years etc.

But realistically, that's not really a viable solution.
