That's scary. I would have expected it to be high but that's a lot higher than I suspected.
There are approximately 30m households in the UK. There are around 20m people over the age of 65 and you would expect that they made up more than a third of the households. The vast majority of these will have savings and income not affected by the crisis.
Of the remaining people, many will still be working as normal and some will actually be earning more. Many more will be furloughed and receiving most of their pay, and will not be spending money on socialising etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not belittling this at all and fully expected millions of households to be struggling, but 50% is a staggering figure.
Of course one thing I'm not factoring in is the number of households who would still be struggling even if the pandemic hadn't happened.
