So more tests are in the system then?

Thats surely good news?

Of course testing is important, we should be doing more testing to find out who has the virus, tracing those who have come into contact with that person, so we can find out a much better figure of those infected along with those that have passed away so we can gauge whether we can ease lockdown and are at the peak or not. Claiming that 122 000 have been tested yesterday, when they haven't, is misleading the British public. 50 000 in the post - when a sample has not been carried out, not posted and not tested is deception. Hancock needed to deceive to save face. Not to be trusted.

More tests aren't in the system though, thats the point. Counting them before they've been done is daft (especially as they will probably be counted again once they've been done).

I know it almost feels dishonest doesn't it ?

that said The fact they’re stepping up all attempts to increase testing has to be a positive whatever the circumstances.

It does my swede in! She worries about the cleaner's opinion, so she goes around and hoovers, mops the floor and clears / wipes down all the surfaces.

"That's what I'm paying her to (add expletive) do!" usually falls on death ears, but she won't actually stop getting her to come.

With regards to testing, it seems like the scientific advisor is suggesting that the level of testing (meeting the target) now needs to be used more wisely.

Only with the testing and the new app for contract tracing will actually allow the government to start considering relaxing lockdown, so lets say a few weeks.

My brother in law had his driveway block paved and his crazy wife won’t let him park his brand new Audi on it, in case it leaks oil onto it lol

I think its less helpful now that they are offering tests to everyone.

Im not suggesting its a negative, but if we wanted our household could all get tests and none of us have symptoms.
Asides testing symptomatic people. For me the only testing that makes sense atm is to test for immunity. That would paint a far better picture. We're all on lockdown and have reduced the R value to under 1 so what's the point of testing everyone, most will be negative.

26,000 people have died mate. I should imagine there's a good few people out there who would struggle congratulating them.

I know mate, and it's devastating how many people have died, but I'm not congratulating the government, I'm pointing out that no matter what the government did that was positive news there will always be those out there who try and find something to counter the bit of positivity. By the way mate, I can't stand the Tories, especially those buffoons Johnson and Hancock.

If they had caused this in the first place, I would agree. But like all of us, it is different. Very different.

They have not been brilliant, but they have been consistent and with the public helping them and the NHS, it seems that whatever they have done, is starting to ear fruit.

Thanks for that LL. Not sure I'm any wiser though and can't understand how they get figures a week ahead of when they are produced by ONS.

I clicked on What is Z-score so I could get a better understanding of what the figures represent. My heads still spinning lol
The economics editor at the FT is examining the excess death data and presenting easier to understand analysis if that helps!

just fyi @peteblue, we’ll see if this changes as more data comes in

Those number of daily deaths figures just dont seem to be lowering.

They are, but slowly by the looks of it. Obviously it’s been skewed with adding in all deaths, but it is lowering albeit slowly. The graph showing numbers in hospital seems to be painting the same picture. Not good, but a bit better....

While the government will obviously want to come out favourably, the scientific and medical data (provided by the MO and scientific officer) is immoral?

Yes, I believe its immoral to be hoodwinking the general publicmlike this every day.

Agree. When these tests first came out we were told it was pointless testing anyone after day 3 of symptoms because it would be a false result. So not only are they testing people who won't have it, they are testing people who may have had got it 4 days ago but will come out negative. All to hit a target.
