Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Even if that’s the case, how does it prove it came from a lab ?

Your argument starts with a fair premise but then jumps to a totally unproven conclusion.

- This is the deadliest Coronavirus (correct)
- This virus broke out in a city with a large virus research facility (correct)

- The virus came from that facility (NO)
Option 1. Some chap buying bats for a stirfry caused a global pandemic, China told us so.
Option 2. The Lab for the centre of research and experiments into Coronaviruses in the world, a Lab criticised for it's safety procedures on more than one occasion within the last few years, leaks the virus out of one of it's Labs.

Which sounds more plausible?, China won't even let The World Health Organisation into China to do their own investigations, the USA have repeatedly asked them for samples of the virus from China, not given, many requests from other countries for samples turned down, what are China trying to hide?

You can't compare HIV to Covid-19, you compare it to other Coronaviruses like SARS and MERS, the two most deadly Coronaviruses before Covid-19 that infected around 11,000 and killed 3,500.

Covid-19 is a monster in that family of viruses, originating in the same city as the number one research facility for those types of viruses in the world, researching and experimenting with that family of viruses for two decades.
Sars-1 originated on a rural farm in China. During that outbreak there were around 50,000 flights in and out of China a year. Covid-19 originated in the main city of a province. Between January & March alone this year there was scheduled to be 165,000 flights in and out.

Does that help?

The spread of this can in most instances be tracked to single flights or even individuals who travelled and ended up infecting a nation.

You only need one flight into your country, that's how deadly and virile it is, does that help?

Can we end this lunacy that it was man made? Corona virus strains have being scientifically known for some time now. As a viral pathogen it will look to replicate its DNA in as many hosts as possible. And on rare occasions it can jump hosts preventable yes deliberate I highly doubt it.

I wouldnt say it was man made - but surely there is the chance that it did escape from the Wuhan lab (considering how infectious and slippery it seems to be) rather than the theory that some bloke ate a bat sandwich and one thing led to another.

You're getting there! So if an outbreak occurs in a city with an international airport, which has several flights a day out of it to international destinations, compared to on a single farm during a time where international travel was far rarer in and out of the country, which is more likely to spread?

There is a chance, but the likelihood is less than the wet markets theory and the fact that the usual internet people are saying “lab theory, and man made!” should really make everyone doubt it.

Exactly. As I just said in the Trump thread, it’s sensible to be open minded, and make conclusions on the basis of the evidence.

But we know that Coronaviruses have previously moved from bats, through an intermediary, to humans (2002 SARS), so it’s entirely plausible that the same happened here, and that has been the initial scientific consensus. If new evidence comes to light, I’ll change my mind.

So, proves nothing.

As ever, can't take anything online at face value but deaths based on symptoms/probability without testing...

Deaths associated to pneumonia, flu etc down comparatively to previous years - makes you wonder just how big the margin of error is for deaths.

You know this whole thing is going to blow up and get pushed more and more by the likes of Trump. The implications are huge and help no one apart from those seeking to deflect blame.
