Very primitive medical practices compared to today, the modern world has never seen a flu virus like Covid, there were estimates this week that it could kill upto 3m if it spreads to third-world economies.

The US intelligence community came out only yesterday to state that they agree with the "wide scientific consensus" regarding Covid-19's natural origins.

Trump came out and sparked a debate with a counter comment, but he talked about ingesting bleach so he probably believes Apollo 13 brought back cheese.

In the same statement they are saying that it is not a done deal.

"The IC will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.”

If China are proved to be even negligent in any of this, bad safety practises at one of their Labs for instance, the whole world are going to want to bend them over for trillions in compensation, that could start a war.

Your argument starts with a fair premise but then jumps to a totally unproven conclusion.

I recall with fondness a BBC documentary about a bloke who managed to prove the the Sphinx in Giza was far older than the Pyramids because of erosion patterns at its base. All solid, well-evidenced science that he didn’t abuse by claiming he knew who had built it originally.

The loons claim it proved they came from Mars, of course.

Covid-19 is a monster in that family of viruses, originating in the same city as the number one research facility for those types of viruses in the world, researching and experimenting with that family of viruses for two decades.

I've mentioned it previously, but I have a friend who works with the LSTM and is currently engaged in work to develop a test and vaccine with other institutions.

She has a PhD from the LSTM and she originally studied some form of biology at Balliol, and has experience dealing with a number of deadly pathogens for years.

She has studied COVID-19, and when someone in our group of friends asked if it was man-made she came out with expletives. So excuse me if I trust her view.

Additionally, you can compare different pathogens and actually they do all the time: means of transmission; r0 rate; survival rate/mortality rate.

It was all based on confirmed cases in those stats I posted, not how many there could be infected, we don't know that, so I didn't see your point

The desperate need to blame China I find bizarre. Whether it’s their wet markets, or escaped from the lab, is largely irrelevant at this point in time, as it doesn’t change our containment response planning.

Sure, the origin, when absolutely determined, will affect international relations and trade, possibly even reparations, and is important in understanding for future prevention. But none of that changes our response strategy in the here and now.

Those saying - “see I told you it was from that lab” when there was no evidence of that whatsoever, and they just ‘had a feeling’ that it was ‘all a bit suspect’, is akin to me claiming I knew that a dice would land on a six before I threw it.
