Where did you read that? And wouldn’t it make sense for the Chinese to try to use a drug that showed promise on coronaviruses in general (since this isn’t their first) and Covid-19 in particular? I’m genuinely confused as to what nefarious thing you are suggesting - even if the Chinese applied for a patent for a copy of the drug it is unlikely to mean that outside of China Gilead’s claims to the patent would be usurped.I know, and they had it for years. But apparently the Chinese applied for the patent for the express purpose of treating the Covid19.....weird isn’t it....

China Applies for Patent for Potential Coronavirus Drug

“It has applied for a patent for the use of the drug, know as remdesivir, to treat the novel coronavirus. The move is a sign that China views Gilead’s therapy as one of the most promising candidates to fight the outbreak that has now claimed almost 500 lives. A patent battle may affect Gilead’s control over the drug in China.”
I really must need more caffeine as your point still passes me by.It was the speed for which they applied for the patent that is of concern. They knew it could go human-human and applied as soon as they were forced to admit it......
