I know, and they had it for years. But apparently the Chinese applied for the patent for the express purpose of treating the Covid19.....weird isn’t it....
Where did you read that? And wouldn’t it make sense for the Chinese to try to use a drug that showed promise on coronaviruses in general (since this isn’t their first) and Covid-19 in particular? I’m genuinely confused as to what nefarious thing you are suggesting - even if the Chinese applied for a patent for a copy of the drug it is unlikely to mean that outside of China Gilead’s claims to the patent would be usurped.

Sorry still confused as to what nefarious about it other than trying to avoid paying Gilead!

“It has applied for a patent for the use of the drug, know as remdesivir, to treat the novel coronavirus. The move is a sign that China views Gilead’s therapy as one of the most promising candidates to fight the outbreak that has now claimed almost 500 lives. A patent battle may affect Gilead’s control over the drug in China.”

It was the speed for which they applied for the patent that is of concern. They knew it could go human-human and applied as soon as they were forced to admit it......

This seems like really sensible forward planning by Germany both at a overall level to reduce healthcare demands and at an individual level as lots of people still die of regular, seasonal flu. You’d hope one of the few benefits of coronavirus would be that more people get the flu jab this year reducing both spread and mortality.
BERLIN: The coronavirus pandemic is a long way from over, German Health Minister Jens Spahn said on Wednesday, announcing measures, including ramped-up purchases of flu vaccines, to help ready the healthcare system for a long-term challenge.

"It would be a major challenge for the healthcare system to be confronted with a flu wave and a corona wave at the same time - they have similar symptoms and require similar ventilation capacities," he said, unveiling plans to make 30 per cent more flu jabs available for the coming autumn-winter flu season.

Spahn also said that all employees providing care for the elderly would get a bonus for "doing a great job at a difficult time". He said the federal government and social insurance covering two-thirds of the costs for that while the federal states and employers would be expected to pay the rest. The Finance Ministry has said that bonus payments to reward employees for their work during the coronavirus crisis would be tax-free up to an amount of €1,500 (£1,312.05) in 2020.

NHS England has announced 445 new deaths of people who tested positive for COVID-19.

Of the 445 deaths announced today:

-- 96 occurred on April 28
-- 148 occurred on April 27
-- 42 occurred on April 26

The figures also show 116 of the new deaths took place between April 1 and April 25 while the remaining 43 deaths occurred in March, with the earliest new death taking place on March 9.

I really must need more caffeine as your point still passes me by.

China knew it went from human to human, but would not tell the rest of the world, in fact they stated that it didn’t. However they knew the reality because they were also testing the drug at their Wuhan institute. The day after they had to finally admit it went human to human they slapped in the patent. They knew all along and lied to the rest of the world.....
