Assuming that such a targeted default is possible (it should be since Treasuries are zeroes and ones these days rather than printed certificates, but with government computer systems you never know), it is not clear what the implications for investor perception of US debt would be. I'm very confident in telling you that your proposed move would end up costing the US money in the long run due to increased borrowing costs. I am much less confident in telling you whether that result would obtain in five years, or fifteen, or fifty.

To put this another way - if the dealmaker-in-chief thought he could get away with this, don't you think he already would have tried? He clearly believes that making good on your liabilities is for suckers. Look at all the contractors in Philly and New Jersey that he stiffed on the Taj...

So they were wrong. So now everything a globally funded body of scientists say is wrong?

I think they are only just cautioning governments not to rely on antibody tests and immunity passports until we know a good deal more about whether immunity is conferred on those who contract the virus and get over it, and for how long any immunity lasts.

It's the way it's spread Peter and how deadly it's being that is raising eyebrows, SARS is 90% minimum a genetic brother to Covid-19, and SARS was bad, infected a few mainly Asian countries, but only killed under 800, only 8,000 infected.

Has it been genetically engineered to be more efficient at spreading and infecting?, that Wuhan Lab has been experimenting with Coronaviruses for 2 decades, 100% some of their work is related to developing bioweapons, it is China's leading Lab for technologies related to bioweapon production.

My opinion, from research I've done in to it, is something has been leaked out of that Lab accidentally.

The Shadow Minister for Mental Health (a working Dr) is being interview on BBC1 and she’s all but advocating that NHS staff should refuse to work without PPE.

While I completely appreciate her worries and concerns, I wonder if Labour will come out with a clarifying message after this because this could be a big issue.

Think the royal college of nursing came out with something similar a few days ago.

Given your distain for the ECJ, imagine what you would think about an international court capable of writing off $1t of debt due to a pandemic...

I think they did as well as the British Medical Associating. Personally, I agree with their concerns entirely because I wouldn't be happy working without PPE.

It's also a very serious failing of both the government and the logistics that it hasn't been sorted earlier regardless of the difficulties involved in obtaining it.

However, I can't help have slight issues (well... worries) with what she was subtly advocating in her position: to refuse to work would be refuse to treat patients.

Really, I do not know the answer to it and it's a very difficult situation for everyone involved, with heart felt sympathy, but I can't help but feel that duty is duty.

Individual people need to make that decision themselves rather than a person from a political party almost suggesting to not work - or that's how I took it.
