If you look on the TV they are grown in tunnels at waist height - not having the farmers saying it is skilled work, hard work yes that can be taught in a few hours any people picking crops should be social distancing never mind being flew in sat next together on a aeroplane from any country - Agriculture has a lot of gentleman farmers in politics......in fact in the 1980,s when I did my NEBSS it was the biggest voice in the house of Parliment......
This is all about paying the lowest wage Bruce, and going against the government guidelines- I don't care which workers are there as long as it has been done safely......80,000 UK workers applied they took on 8,000 .......
Rich farmers who never dirty their hands Bruce.......
It's been going on for decades......rich MPs landowners getting richer......virus pandemic or no pandemic.....nothing changes pickingor planting crops field work is not rocket science .....
I need a lie down
I understood every word of that and its meaning
More disturbing though is the fact that I agree with it

This was my issue with the old bloke raising money, it's not him I have an issue with... But the distraction from the main issues and why charity is being used to fund the NHS? .. Insane and unsustainable

I`m sure the money does go the " NHS ", but whereabouts in the NHS does it exactly go to ?

I`m sure the last thing he`d want is for it be swallowed up and disappear into the ether.

At least when people raise funds for specific charities, you know that it`s going specifically to that charity.

That video from Westminster bridge last night is mad. Who on earth thought it was a good idea to all congregate there and why was it put on twitter by the Met?

What's wrong with clapping from your front door, front garden or from a window or whatever
LBC were flabbergasted by those scenes.last night no social distancing this am -anyone who has a photo please post it?

We know a hospital trust boss has been ringing up Burberry to see if they can provide PPE so I guess the 17 million will be going there. With that amount of money I reckon it will keep about a 125 hospital personnel equipped for about a week.

Distraction from the main issues? You’re right, I don’t even know why we are in lockdown or the issues the NHS and care homes are facing. Turn on a TV and all that’s reported is sunshine and happiness.

Jesus wept.

Some European countries are beginning to ease lockdown restriction on social life, transport and cross-border. Reuters has a roundup of those that have announced plans:

  • Austria: Allowed thousands of shops to reopen on 14 April, becoming one the first countries in Europe to loosen the lockdown. Shopping centres, larger shops and hairdressers are due to open from 1 May.
  • Czech Republic: Shops will reopen on 20 April, larger stores to follow on 11 May, with restaurants and shopping malls returning to business on 8 June.
  • Denmark: Will allow certain small businesses, such as hairdressers, beauty salons and driving schools, to reopen on 20 April, the government said on 17 April. The move comes after it began reopening day care centres and schools this week in a first step towards gradually easing the lockdown.
  • Germany: Will allow partial reopening of shops next week and schools, hairdressers from 4 May. However, social distancing rules will remain in place until 3 May.
  • Norway: Will ease curbs gradually, starting with the reopening of kindergartens on 20 April and schools from first to fourth grade a week later. The ban on hairdressers and makeup salons, as well as on the use of mountain cabins, will also be lifted in April.
  • Poland: Will reopen parks and forests from 20 April and ease limits on the numbers of people in shops, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on 16 April, adding that he planned to ease the lockdown further every week or two

All this talk about the government is going to be financially screwed in all this but I'd imagine there will be a fair amount coming in by way of inheritance tax at this rate.

The money's going to NHS Charities rather than the NHS itself

See https://www.nhscharitiestogether.co.uk/what-we-do/

Plainly there's some overlap between what the charities which sit under that umbrella and the NHS itself do, so there's an argument to be made for those things to be directly funded from taxation. But a lot of things they do sit outside mainstream healthcare.

If someone locally did a fund raising effort for Alder Hey, we might have similar thoughts about why their work isn't centrally funded, but we probably wouldn't lose much sleep over it. Same goes for hospices which are mainly funded by charities.
