Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I guess the papers and TV is not good reading or watching... However, I digress. Not getting the emotions, sorry. So stick to numbers, nice sterile numbers.

I just don't know what people get out of all this hand wringing other than making themselves and everyone else thoroughly bloody miserable. As if the world isn't tense enough.

Trillions and trillions of dollars of reasons why they'd want to do that, there was uproar in the scientific community when it came to light what they were doing in that facility, because it was dangerous, they were making Viruses that transmitted to humans more efficiently to study how it happens, such Virus studies could help produce Bioweapons.

If China makes it's own Bioweapons, and it most certainly does like any major nation, that Lab in Wuhan does some of it's work for sure, it has links to the Chinese military.

The speed and range of how this virus has spread is unlike any of the coronaviruses like SARS that have gone before it, it's as if it's been engineered to do so.

It will all come out in the wash, the Americans will prove China's to blame here I have no doubts.

why are you arguing simultaneously that this was deliberate and an accident?

From another forum I frequent, no idea how true this is though the poster (not a whopper at least based on previous posts) did say it came from a specialist at St Thomas':
  • BJ was never on a ventilator but was on a cpap machine and was "really quite poorly"
  • BJs hospitalisation coincided with a "massive" increase in "gardeners" working the hospital grounds
  • there are 138 ventilated patients and 330 patients on cPap
  • none of these are over 70. None of them are under 30
  • intakes into Tommies for Covid19 are decreasing
  • Covid19 came to the country from Birmingham Airport.
  • from tracing the bloods they now know the virus has about 400 strains in UK.
  • this is why some people show different symptoms. It's entirely possible to be exposed to hundreds of these strains and none of them will affect you.
  • the mutated strains seem to be where an infected person infects another person who has something wrong with them. This creates a mutation. Depending on the recipients underlying illness or combination of this creates a new mutation.
  • priority is to find a common strand for all mutations and halt that strand
  • the PPE we ordered was from China. There was enough for everyone but on testing it was found to be only 95% accurate.
  • Donald Trump invoked a law from after the second World War to prioritise buying all the stock from Roche in Germany.
  • our PPE and testing is behind because we had to wait for more stock from Roche.

I spent 5 days at the furniture show at the NEC mid-late jan. Loads of Chinese people, and 2 of our staff were very ill afterwards.

I thought we were talking hypothetically. Personally I would not want to see any crash and I don't believe we will. Not that it would cause me concern property wise, but the financial consequences and pressure it could put on people, is more of a worry, we just won't cope.

Im not sure how a property price crash is to be avoided at this point.

Hundreds of thousands if not millions of people will be made unemployed by this crisis, which will have a direct impact on property prices. Some have suggested as much as a 15-20% drop.

In terms of hospital load, Barnet hospital which is in one of the worst affected parts of the country has seen a big decrease in the number of Covid patients outside of ICU.

Most other wards are returning to a more “normal” operation.

Personally think restrictions will be eased at the end of this next three week window to see how this impacts the health service.

That sounds sensible, but determining the extent of this by the impact on the NHS (which is what they appear to be doing rather than testing) is really dangerous because of the week long lag; they’ll just end up putting everything in lockdown again for longer than they need to and suffer more impact on the health system than they would otherwise.

One thing he mentioned in that which is true, loneliness is an absolute killer the older you get. Isolation has a massive impact on the elderly and I was always amazed at the rate of decline of patients who were in a medical ward awaiting long term care (where they were surrounded by other patients and frequently visited) and their eventual rehousing in one of our long term care units where their cognition plummeted significantly in a short space of time once they were effectively institutionalised. Pretty sure we all know elderly people who declined rapidly after the death of their spouse or significant other too. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a surge in people needing long-term or respite care after all this is over

I'm not sure which is worse, being alone and blissfully ignorant of the world around you, or logging onto social media and hearing about death at every corner, the property market crashing 20% and what not. In terms of mental wellbeing I reckon I'd take being around no one than being around people whose apparent purpose is to make you feel [Poor language removed] miserable.

I’ve lived alone for like 8 years now and it’s belting. I couldn’t have handled this lockdown if I lived with someone else, no chance.

Upto 50% from 2008 crash, however, that was reserved generally for new build flats and certain parts of the country...

No matter if it’s true or not

You okay Bruce? You seem very on edge

We've probably got 8 months or so more of this stuff, plus the inevitable fallout that will result from it even once a vaccine is available. I know it's huge. Every bugger knows its huge. Just tired of logging online every day and being overwhelmed with the latest new way to explain just how crap it is, or how rubbish the government is, or how we'd all be okay if we were only a bit more like the Germans or the Koreans or whoever. Is it going to be like this for the next several months or might we have the occasional day off and try and remember what it was like to have some joy in life?
