Because if you test more, you pick up much much milder cases than you would otherwise... which brings the death rate down. (The number of deaths won’t change much if you test more, but the total cases found will increase).

If you test more you can also get people out of circulation and into isolation and do likewise with more through contact tracing which will reduce the number of deaths and will be pretty essential to have in place when lockdowns are slowly loosened to help prevent secondary peaks

My query is not about the spread but about those known to have the virus and the treatment then given.....

If you think that two nations who report similar numbers of cases, but one is testing 6x as many people, actually have the same number of cases, then give your head a wobble.

Anyone got any thoughts on when housing market will reopen and impact on lending? We need to move house this year (Mrs is expecting due Dec and we don’t have enough bedrooms) And I’m panicking badly that we’ll be stuck.

But France and Germany have almost exactly the same Confirmed Cases at about 135K....so why do 4-5 times more French die ?.....

This is as much a conspiracy as the virus not existing or it being a weapon. Truth is China has dealt with things like this on a bigger scale and more than most the rest of the world. Safe to say they're more prepared for it, don't know why that's so unbelievable esp with the measures they took in lock down, makes the lock down here look non existant.

Just answer this simple question. What treatment are Germany giving their 130,000 virus positive people that produces 14,000 less deaths than France........

First you answer a question. How do you know it is a treatment that is making the difference? Have you accounted for all other possible variables?

In fairness, major media outlets (eg: CNN) are currently running stories on this as apparently the US intelligence apparatus is actively investigating the theory (thus far without result).

The notion that the Chinese would let this get out on their own soil deliberately to wreck Western economies is completely insane. The risks are way too high; you could easily do more damage to yourself than your targets, and how do you guarantee the absolute silence needed for the participants to avoid overthrow, war crimes trials and execution? Seriously entertaining this notion suggests poor reasoning capacity.

The escape-from-lab story is plausible, but doesn't mesh well with other things that we know. Expert opinion seems to be that a lab product would have telltale sequencing markers that this lacks. The hypotheses that the Chinese researchers knew this and chose to mimic natural origin (risking the efficacy of the resulting bioweapon), or that the experts are broadly somehow beholden to China are sustainable, but sufficiently unbelievable that they require proof.

That's probably worthy of investigation, but I don't know what you'd do about it if we learned that the origin was a lab error rather than natural. Josh Hawley wants to make it possible to sue the Chinese for reparations, but good luck getting said reparations without a war. That's going to prove true for most "punishment" options here.

Sadly, I think it'll take a while. There's bound to be a drop in the market, so properties already on sale (like ours) will almost certainly have to be revalued. Now is usually the best time of the year to get on the property market, but it wouldn't surprise me if this year is largely a write off.

I don’t. I’m just looking for a sensible explanation as to why two first world countries, next door to each other, have the same number of Confirmed Cases, but one has 4x the number of deaths to the other. They have all been tested, all confirmed, but one group has a higher mortality rate. Yet if I suggest that Germany may record a death as heart failure yet France would record the same death as Covid19, everyone jumps in to say the German‘s are managing it better.....lunacy...
