I`m chomping at the bit to get back in the pub Pete, but for the life of me I can`t see how they`re going to allow the wet pubs to open until there`s a vacine.

My local is tiny, fifty people in there and it`s properly packed.

At least 60% of the customers are over 60, so slap bang in the high risk group.

What do they do, ban the over 60`s and people in the high risk groups - obese, diabetic etc ?

They`d have about six customers !!
Is it very pale coloured, have four legs and eats sugar lumps by any chance

It’s no different to all the over 60’s gathering in a cafe or going for a meal in a restaurant. Most 60 year olds in a pub, sit at a table anyway with the odd one or two sat by the bar. There will be mayhem if they do this.....

If they limited numbers it wouldn`t be economically viable to open.

I just can`t see a way around this.

It pains me to say it too, as I love pubs.

Most manufacturing companies aren't able to socially distance people, are they going to stay shut too? No chance. Pubs will open, and people will have to practice hygiene better.

We can't hide away until a vaccine is found.

Exactly - Look at how tardy they've been at testing people - It'll be years until a vaccine is mass produced and available to us plebs

Once a pub has gone, it’s normally gone forever....
Generally Pete they do. But this may prove to be an exception. I'm not saying that a lot of pubs won't go to the wall, but many would see them as a viable venture in normal times.

I can therefore see many pubs reopening once things settle. Hope so anyway

My missus reckons she spends a minimum of
Blow drys 100 euro a month
Colour 70 euro a month
Hair cut 85 euro (every 5 weeks )
Nails 55 euro
Facial (no giggles please ) 65 euro
Massage 60 euro
And she complains I go for 5- 6 pints on a weds night on my own
She will be worth a fortune by the time this lockdown is over lol
Our post office book has not looked this healthy in a long time

That's crazy.
Can't decide if I'm a terrible female, too lazy for all that, or just a miser

The only good thing about this virus is that it’s got people washing their hands...still won’t be putting nuts on the bar though (too short).......

She's lying mate.
She plainly has an expensive toy boy that she sees while you're down the pub.

Money well spent I'd say.

I think all pubs will reopen if allowed in May. The big brewers have been excellent in handling the situation, keg and cask replacement schemes, advice on grants, furlough etc etc. I can’t comment on rent because we own our building, but I fully expect (unless the landlord was crap anyway) that they will be supporting their pubs through this. They really have been very good.....

That would last about 2 minutes......anyway, I get table service in my pub.......
People do it in supermarkets and shops. I think you could be surprised what people will put up with. A lot of people are scared of catching this thing, including me. I'm middle aged, male and overweight. I'm not convinced I'd see this through and don't want to find out the hard way. I'd be more than happy with those arrangements if it meant some pubs and restaurants could reopen

He used an estimate of one care home COVID death per three hospital deaths, so 12k in hospital => 4k in care homes.

The estimate's based on figures which have come out of Italy and France. Realistically, the ratio could probably be anywhere between .1 and .5 , so .33 seems sensible.

Interesting. Was that mentioned in the article they're quoted in? I couldn't see anything about it on their website at all. You also sense had the government used such a guesstimate they may well not have been given the same latitude, and it's hard to imagine Morgan accepting a "we believe care home deaths to be between x and y" kind of response.
