I'd disagree with that. A lockdown gives us time to carry out medical trials with existing drugs to see if any of them, either on their own, or in combination, are effective at the time when the virus changes from just being flu like, to being bloody serious.
If, and it might be a big if, some of those trials end up with treatments which save a significant number of lives, it's worth the wait, and, if you have a treatment which works, you can relax restrictions a bit knowing you have a better chance of dealing with serious infections.
Obviously all those trials may come to nothing, but it has to be worth a try ?
