African Americans are being disproportionately harmed by this virus. We should see hospitalizations and deaths by race/ethnicity similar to the make up the population.
We are not. I haven't heard anything similar happening in the UK or EU so it does not seem to be an genetic difference.

If the underlying reason more AA are dying is due to decades of institutional racism (it is), then to ignore it is simply more racism.

If it isn't, we still need to understand why there are differences. Understanding that leads to better understanding of the viral disease process and potentially effective treatments.

I'm pretty sure that I've seen it reported that ethnic minorities make up about a third of the victims of this disease in the UK .

It's a social issue not a skin colour issue.

Is it a social issue that diabetes is more prevalent in people from BAME backgrounds ? Probably partly, but, and there are people on here who'll know better than me, I think the general consensus is that there's a genetic factor as well.

One of the major underlying diseases associated with COVID-19 related Deaths is diabetes, so there's a fair chance there's a correlation there.

I notice Rishi Sunak has changed his tune from ‘we’re all in this together’ to ‘we can’t save every business and household from the crisis’.

Not like the Tory scum to lie, is it? To think some working class people were actually praising them.

Meant to be taking the kids to Florida on August 21st been booked for 18 months.
Hardly a major issue given everything else going on and how people have been impacted but what do people think the chances are this could still go ahead?
You read different articles and I don’t know what to believe

They just need to come out and admit the following:

1. We cant realistically stay on lockdown fully past April.

2. Until a vaccine is found the elderly and most vulnerable need to stay largely indoors.

3. Testing has to be ramped up - no more excuses.

Also its disgusting how the care homes / care home staff are not getting priority testing - start bloody helping these people.

Just been speaking to a guy in Georgia US tonight, and he was saying all of the restaurants are open but only for drive thru and that there is only a curfew at night. You can do what you want during the day as long as you don't congregate in large groups, but breaking the curfew brings a ticket of around $400. He didn't believe me when I told him we were locked down 24/7.

Quite a lot of shops are also open for business during the day as well apparently, not sure if this is a State or a Federal thing though.
