An antibody test which was accurate enough to detect people who only had mild symptoms, or had been asymptomatic could be very useful in determining what to do for the rest of this year.

Current thinking is that we'll probably come out of the current phase with less than 10% of the population having been infected. If you randomly sampled the population across the country, you'd need a lot less than a million antibody tests to come up with a much better idea of the situation.

If that confirmed current best estimates, then nothing changes, but if it came back with an answer of, say, 20%, then your whole way of moving forward changes. Obviously if it came back with an answer of 1%, then that'd be a bit s h one t

And that’s fair enough as it helps to understand, but testing is being held up as some panacea in resolving this crisis and it isn’t really.....

Prepared like what. How are Germany measuring and recording deaths, when did they start. Germany also doesn’t have centralised health nor testing facilities, they use lots of private companies for the testing. Is this the ‘gold standard’ you aspire to ?.....

I'm sorry, can someone help me out here...is this divvy actually telling me that Germany have got this wrong?

I can see how you would draw that conclusion BUT HOW did Germany keep it's current death rate as it is, preparedness? That is my point.

I dont have any ideas, I dont have the answers but I'm not on here berating a leader or leaders around the world with the vitriol that you seem to thrive on!


I wish I did have the answers, I'm sure many of us do, but this is a long haul.

I'm curious as to how Germany has kept its rate so low but we all know German reliability is a "thing"

Will Germany return to some sort of normality sooner than anyone else? I doubt it, globally it's a huge issue, Spain has jumped the gun IMO Today, big mistake that could set the whole of Europe back, look at the spike in China today, allegedly "imported" cases!

The hurdles to come are many but I do I believe that singling anyone out is unjustified at THIS point in time, if anyone has case to answer its China but their time will come, the WORLD will hold China to account of that I'm sure!

Upto 2,000 cancer referrals are being missed every week, referrals under the two week wait system for very serious diseases where suspected cancer patients are referred by GP's and supposed to be seen within a fortnight have fallen by up to 70 percent within the last month.

People are extremely reluctant to make crucial visits to hospital as resources are being centred all around the response to coronavirus. Its now feared this is having extremely dire consequences for people with other possibly fatal conditions unless caught early enough.

The concentration on Coronavirus is almost certainly having a hugely detrimental effect and health officials are apparently extremely concerned.

We don’t really know. But let’s suppose that they did get it right. The did it not by having an NHS lookalike, or by having central control over testing, they did it by utilising free enterprise. So which bit do you believe is this gold standard. Come on Dave, speak up, should we have adopted the gold standard of health insurance and free enterprise ?...

Whatever works and saves peoples lives is the right sytem.

In any case, the NHS is only as good as the cash it receives for equipment and talent. Your lot have run it down.

Testing isn't going to make the problem go away, but it is crucial in deciding how to manage the virus.

Even if we were just using the current swab test, you could do a mix of testing of ( say ) supermarket employees who were isolating and random testing of control groups in the same working environment to see how the virus was spreading in a working environment where limited social distancing is employed.

Knowledge is key here, and testing is a big part in understanding more about this virus.
