This shouldn't just be brushed off. China lied. However strict their lockdown was, there's no chance Shanghai and Beijing weren't affected. Everyone knows that.

China lied. There needs to be massive trade tariffs now. And that means the west stopping using Chinese companies to manufacture so much (which should happen anyway, just from a human rights perspective).

The WHO were - at the start of this - equally as hopeless and did nothing to press China on actual figures. The people at the top should not be there when this is all over.

the mask stuff is interesting I was going to post earlier and it was half covered in the briefing tonight but it Does seem masks are generally only useful to reduce infection from those wearing despite many viewing it as some kind of panacea. That said we do seem to be flip flopping on that as we have on other issues however I do accept that changes in data may influence that .

Yea, it does, but, on the whole, it's probably taking years, rather than months off peoples lives. Even in normal times, when relatively elderly people ( 65+ from memory ? ) are admitted, their overall health will be judged against a fraility index, which goes from 1 "Very fit" to 9 "Terminally Ill"

Only scores of 8 or 9 suggest you're likely to die soon ( next six months ) and ( anecdotally only ) an awful lot of people dying with COVID-19 are getting scores much less than 8.

It's a petty remark based on zero facts or evidence. Hes a public servant. Not a politician. I'd rather not question integrity when this is the most difficult global crisis in decades. People can make mistakes.

And yeah I'm still not buying that herd immunity idea that would have crippled the health service. Why have we gone into lockdown if its official policy? It makes no sense to me for lots and lots of other reasons too but I'd rather not go into it all.

Yeah, get that. Was a bit insensitive of me to intimate that folk with a poorly heart, lung, or fat would deffo die this year anyrate.

I might be wrong but I think they class "underlying health issues" as a gigantic list of things, including just being overweight.

Can't say for sure mate, but I think you're wrong.

Underlying health issues will include heart disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, COPD, cancer, kidney disease and a few others.

Clearly if someone's obese ( or even just overweight ), there's a fair chance they'll be hypertensive or diabetic, but I doubt very much they'd just class being overweight as being an underlying condition in itself.
