What role are you expecting Local Authorities to have? I'm not being argumentative here, I'm just curious.
They have about 5000 environmental health workers with experience in contact tracing.

Very easily report it correctly.
For example the Kenny dagleish story , ran that headline like he was on his deathbed with the virus, which resulted in that story being shared probably thousands of times without many people reading it.
Perhaps by explaining what's going on rather than just focus on headlines?
Because that is so easily done. Rather than report misleading information and provide shock headlines, have the real narrative. They aren't reporting every single case , they are collectively grouping them together into figures and then purposely reporting that information in a way designed to scare people.
This is the same media pulling their news from Facebook posts, just giving pages , Twitter probably in some rare instances. Anything and everything that ties into the narrative that we are all going to die , mentioning the d word over and over and over. .
I've said this before but take a step back. Same as with @LinekersLegs (who I think I said it to a few weeks back). Not everyone is sound minded intelligent people like yourselves. So many people are ignorant to what is really going on. All they get is the D word every single day , every single time they log onto their social network . Even tik tok is flooded with it , amongst the silly dance videos. Most people don't read the information in the right sources , most probably have never heard of those places. I mean I don't read the WHO site or anything like that.
The impact of this is causing significant mental health issues amongst these people. It's not just fear of the here and now neither , this won't go away for a long time. So many people suffering with anxiety alone never mind the rest will have long lasting impact from what they see, what they hear on a daily basis.
And it could all be avoided if the media actually provided clarity. They aren't going to report every single case, but perhaps start by telling people the difference in these cases. Perhaps not pulling information from social media posts and running them as headlines , putting the post (which may or may not be true) back into circulation for more people to see.
It's so easy to write a story informing people that covid-19 was not the cause of death on one of the many stories they run. Even easier not to run that story to begin with. Would the dagleish story have made the news if he wasn't tested? Would anyone have even known he was in hospital? Judging by the hundreds of posts to the story , no.
If the news was reported direct with actual information on a daily basis then this would all be completely different. Go on any tabloid news outlet online right now , see how many stories are in there about people dying after being tested positive , see how many point out it wasn't the cause of death. Because they are the ones being shared all over the internet.
that's the point I'm making about the media. If nothing else, if they didn't hand pick death stories for the sole purpose of striking fear into readers , probably getting that story from a third party source via Facebook. This wouldn't be so bad.
look hard enough and you get the real picture of everything. Except people aren't , they see the headlines and don't bother to read the full article at the best of times. Everything out there is engineered to scare and shock. None of it is designed to inform.
You seem to assume everybody reads just headlines.
The Dog leash story clearly stated he was in the hospital for something else, tested positive but has no symptoms.
Im honestly missing your point to be honest.
All the information is there if you look for it.

Coronavirus: Another 717 coronavirus patients die in UK hospitals - taking total to 11,329
Among the latest people to have died with COVID-19 is a 17-year-old.news.sky.com
Patients were aged between 17 and 101 - and 40 of those (aged 37 to 98) had no underlying health conditions.
If we actually get to the target of a 100,000 tests per day by the end of the month, then we have a fighting chance of controlling the situation.
That's based on the fact that we're currently doing about 4000 tests a day on people being admitted to hospital at, or about the peak. If the ratio of admitted cases to overall cases is close to the expected 1 in 20, then we'd currently need 80,000 tests a day to test everyone with symptoms.
As new cases drop, then that would hopefully free up tests to deal with known contacts. If Public Health England can swallow their pride and let local authorities help out with the tracing, then it's doable, tight like, but doable.
Not being funny, so over 700 died, and only 40 had no health issues? (Some would say that being 98 is a health issue anyrate)
He was probably healthier than me.
Age is just a number.

So, given most deaths are of people aged 60+, it's not really a massive surprise that most deaths are of people with underlying conditions
I might be wrong but I think they class "underlying health issues" as a gigantic list of things, including just being overweight.
Again, don't quote me on that, but I don't think most of the health issues they refer to are what people think, and actually, a lot of people are vulnerable without realising it.
It will be a joint approach with Public Health, LA and Health. Almost every area across the country will be having these conversations and will include all three parties.I guess its a method of breaking a massive number of folk down into more manageable figure. Thinking of my modest town, if the LA got tests or kits or whatever into the GP surgeries, or folk halls, or anything really, and asked them to test the town over 3 weeks, it could be done.
I wonder if we will see an upsurge in healthier living after this, you never know when the resilience being fit and healthy will be needed.Over weight is a big big problem apparently. Spoke with my sister last night, (Cheltenham, posh bit with Doctors as neighbours), and thats what her mate, (a Doctor in Gloucester) told her. The immediate admission and venting is massively complicated by the size of a patient.
Tis indeed. But a fit 98 year old would have been stronger when he was 30.
