Apologies for going off topic and responding to a political windup.....that’s what the other thread is for after all......

Why are the UK not including those who die in nursing homes in figures?
Nor those who aren't tasted and cause of death is unknown?

Are they trying to massage the figures?

Why aren't the British media doing their fecking job?

I don't understand the British media. I really, really don't.

Basic things: Ireland and the UK started this pandemic with roughly the same number of ICU beds (6.5 per 100,000 for Ireland, 6.6 per 100,000 in the UK).

If anything, the UK was slightly better off. https://t.co/owhHMUZccU

Because its really difficult to get daily figures from nursing homes - the deceased may not have been tested for coronavirus, and there are thousands of care homes across the country. Deaths are also invariably reported to the coroner via the Police, not via the NHS (as is the case in hospitals). The same goes for the people who are dying at home from this, many of whom won't be found for days / weeks or longer never mind reported.

I‘d love to know what point she’s trying to make with the chart....

I have talked about media presentation of what's going on before , how misleading and potentially dangerous it is but I have found a leading quote that seems to be running on every news story today.

is among a further 917 patients who have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus, bringing the total fatalities to 9,875

That bit in bold. Read it again.

There is a difference between testing positive for a virus in hospital and it being the cause of death. Given how many cases are in hospital , it is easier to get infected when your immune system is down in that scenario.

That's the problem though. We aren't being lied to , we are being misled. I've probably said that before. There is no distinguishing between with and of. That's not what is being reported though , as per the quote above.

It's scary times for so many people. They don't need to be misled like this.

Also side point. If that quote IS truthful. Then there isn't a difference being made when these deaths are being reported to us. Which is even scarier that everything is being lumped into one scary figure for everyone without it being seperated.

I disagree, people wont listen to reason, but people listen to their fear.

Just off the phone to my mother, ive tried to keep her spirits up, but shes terrified of somebody she knows getting this and sadly somebody she knows has just recently died, age 32, no underlying medical conditions, thankfully its not somebody she knows personally.

You seem to be trying to downplay this thing, almost as if you are adopting the "these people would have died anyway" attitude and a percentage of people probably would have, but most people who die with this virus will go before their time.

Read down through the thread

I’m still at a loss at what point she is trying to make, or why. Why not compare with Wales, another English speaking country, even nearer and not highly populated. Does Ireland have 120,000 Chinese students. Does it have Airport hubs that are some of the Worlds busiest. Does it have traffic flowing through it from mainland Europe travelling to another country. Does it have a mass of ports dealing with containers from all over the world. No, it’s a little country, stuck out on its own with few people either living there or visiting, unlike the U.K., sorry England as she prefers.....stupid tweet.....

I think most people understand the fear. I left my house today for the first time in about two weeks and even then it was just to run the car for a few miles and make sure the battery was OK.

Sorry to hear that your mum knows someone who has died before their time....
