No, Public Health England are providing death statistics to the government as and when they receive/can process it - Some of numbers being added to the total today actually died back in mid March

They're NHS England figures, so you need to add on Wales and Scotland, and NI too presumably.
Also, because the numbers in the spreadsheet show date of death, rather than date of publication, they'll be different anyway, but the numbers in the spreadsheet are probably, once they're backfilled, a better indication of the trend.

Are NHS England and Public Health England using the same approach?

People seem to quote the likes of https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries though, which gives a daily figure of over 900, which is a good 300 below what NHS England says.

I was in China about 10 years ago on a factory visit and we were took to this restaurant where basically we were given a plate and walked down this line the size of a football pitch to pick what we wanted to eat , by the time I got to the end I had nothing on my plate .
All I saw was plate after plate of stuff that just looked totally inedible, I am not a fussy eater but I do prefer to see my dinner dead before I eat it
I have no axe to grind with the Chinese but when this is all over somebody has to be accountable.

Apparently, the virus emanated from a Tory dinner party, spread around the world by rich tory billionaires, so that the Tories could make a fortune by withholding ppe equipment and selling it at hugely inflated prices. Oh and Boris is a mass murderer who just pretended that he was sick so he could count his money...something like that anyway.....

'Sake.

There'll be some overlap, but, to simplify it, Public Health England ( mainly ) process the swab tests, NHS England deal with the patients ( but do some tests as well ), but the the source for the numbers of deaths for England will be NHS England

The only point i'm trying to make is that they've made a right balls up in the way they're reporting these figures. I'm not suggesting that the figures are incorrect, but they are being reported in a muddled manner

When people hear that the number of deaths has increased by 917 since yesterday, it would fair to assume that those 917 people died yesterday - and that simply isn't the case

Maybe with all that's going on there's been a backlog on post-mortems that revealed someone died with the virus despite not having been tested at the time?

Not far wrong. The Bush meat in china is eaten by the wealthy as a delicacy. It then travelled the world inside rich businessmen and tourists. On arrival in UK there wasn't enough ppe due to tory cuts. Rees Mogg is making a killing out of it and Boris Johnson can seldom be bothered to turn up for work leaving the country rudderless.
