Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I say this as a runner myself, but the way some people are running and not making an effort to move is awful. Some just stay in the middle.

Ive been running on the road and grass as much as I can to help people out. I've been getting so many 'thank you' which shows how bad most are.
I was running past a goff before and she smiled at me for ensuring I got over the other side of the path and we nearly had a big bad incident.

Ah just read now, all fair points, apologies if what i posted was inaccurately inferred anything.
Nothing to apologise for mate the media should be apologising. Ofc people are gonna share sensationalist stuff like this bcuz they're scared etc that's the whole idea of it. The media are being massively irresponsible, agenda driven and sensationalist throughout all of this. It's disgusting and I believe they've done more harm than good. Will they be held to account after its all over? No.

Notice the title of the video, "...video shows mass grave... amid coronavirus surge."

Theyre being very careful and sneaky with their wording. Translated it should read, "here's a mass grave that has always been here, with around 1m burials. We don't know for a fact if any coronavirus victims are buried here. The freshly dug part was by prisoners and the NYC mayor has already stated that the morgues still have space for the dead and prisoners have been digging here for years and doesn't indicate that it's related to the coronavirus. Also only people who don't have family, are unidentified or can't afford burials are buried in here and it's paid for by the state."

That's doesn't generate clicks and sell stories though. No shame.

A park area up the road from me.
Opposite Maccies, KFC and Kebab house.
Usually full of discarded crap but now none.
The rats who scurry about in the bushes close to the water are more obvious now, as I guess that's their easy scran gone ?

The massive seagulls seemed to have done one as well, which is nice as they are nails. Proper front you out they do.

We had a big rat in the garden last week. They must be travelling further to find food with their usual feeding spots gone.

Shot the thing with my air rifle, but it's made me think twice about leaving doors open.

Not counting care homes is a joke as well btw.
I got to speak to step mum last night and she said 'they've all got it'.
4 on her companys rounds have already died and 9 in hospital she said.
If this is replicated across the UK, a lot of deaths are being kept off these figures in my opinion.

They're not trying to mislead people deliberatly though by not including care home numbers though.

The reason they do it is because the NHS numbers they can obtain far quicker than the national numbers which contain care homes, which are often lagging 2 or so weeks behind and aren't as consistent due to it.

From their point of view they need the most accurate figures that represent the 'current' situation, so it makes sense to use NHS numbers which are more current than national figures.

I know we're used to polititians trying to make things look better than they are with stats but they're doing it for the right reasons in this case. One of the medical experts at the daily briefing explained that very point and it makes sense when you think about it.

My usual 40 minute drive to work today only took 25, and got stopped by the police. Only car on the road instead of the usual huge crowds flocking to the beach/ seaside on a bank holiday.

A good sign hopefully
Good to hear.

Did you have to prove you were genuinely going to work out of interest ?

Fair play mate, i was shocked by it to be honest, i lived in NYC for a bit and have loads of friends still there it had me worried and no mistake, i wasnt the better for watching it. I pulled it from the Guardian main website, surprised at them to be honest, your right media really do need to be more responsible, i prorobaly need to look into the validty of the links i post to, so mea culpa.

Away from the subject, still a bit upset, that those who dont have anyone to bury them would be buried like that in this day and age, i would have thought "paupers graves" were a thing of the past, but maybe im naive, maybe this will highlight a public health or human need.

866 dead today in England.

No way this is stopping as soon as people think it is.
Cases are slowing, can't have deaths without cases.

Confirmed deaths logically follow after confirmed cases so there will be a delay. I.e peak deaths will follow some time after peak cases.

The UK has been in lockdown for over 3 weeks now, the incubation period is 2 weeks (generally around 5-7 days for most) so almost all contracted cases from before the lockdown will now have had it or have it.

The lockdowns are working and that's something to be positive about as when the measures lift the NHS will be in a much stronger position to deal with further cases.

Well hopefully the one good thing that comes from all of this is that people realise the current economic system is flawed and that major economic and societal changes need to be made. For example, think of all the people dealing with this new illness who have no access to soap/ hot water, or are in crowded living spaces, who have to work in public jobs still due to financial reasons and those who can only access bad health care systems etc.
