Amazon makes a profit of around $11 billion a year, which even if it were taxed properly isn't going to make much of a dent in government spending. It's perhaps also worth considering that the company lost $2.8 billion in the 4 years or so the company operated before they turned a profit, which presumably is a period you wouldn't be happy the government picked the tab up for.

Why tax firms more when there is a much easier source to hand?

There is around $12 trillion in assets held in tax havens around the world - given what governments have had to do in order to keep the global economy going (which has protected the value of those assets), I don’t think it would be unreasonable to get a contribution off them.

Let's see, the US and Britian are isolationists now, think the G8 will listen to them? What about the EU then? Oh hai Poland and Hungary.

The EU should also be putting tarrifs on China. As should Britain. They should be actively encouraging more manufacturing take place across Europe rather than companies go to China simply to save a penny. I'm sure they do that anyway, but there has to be more incentive.
