It'll be interesting to see if there's a change in how supply chains are run after this, which has shown the major disadvantages of Globalism. When there's a sudden need for products which are only being effectively bulk manufactured in one location, inevitably there's going to be shortages. Governments claiming that masks don't really work so they aren't having to bid against private buyers to actually get hold of them is mental.

Arguably, the first thing that should be done after this is a nationalised supplier of basic equipment being setup. If lack of PPE has caused the issues it has during this crisis, how does it contribute to fatality rates during flu season etc?

Supply chains have been pretty robust really, especially grocery supply chains. It's important that the post-mortem after this doesn't result in a resurgence of nationalism. There's a big risk that we'll massively over-react to what was a freak occurrence, and walls will spring up, civil liberties eroded, and governments will massively over-reach.

The whole idea of the the NHS being funded more effectively after this baffles me - When this comes to an end we're effectively going to be plunged into another decade of austerity measures to cover the losses

I have absolutely no sympathy towards politicians, but I would expect most level headed individuals to realise that it isn't the easiest job in the world - and especially when it comes to budgeting.

"Just give the NHS all the money they need" - We'd all love this to happen. But we live in a country where most people (When they or a family member aren't ill) care most about having their bin emptied weekly, or potholes being fixed in the road, or dog poo bins being made available. Everything costs money - and nobody wants to pay for it.

I hear the same complaints in work every day - "My bin hasn't been emptied - what do I pay my council tax for?" - Well i'll tell you - Education, social care, Police, Fire, Open Spaces, roadworks, libraries, leisure centres and a hundred other things.

Local Government has been gutted by cuts over the past 15 years - and there aren't any other 'nice' things to cut from - Social Care is next

Where's that magic money tree again?

Because there's no way Gove would lie.
I'm not saying he hasn't got it, and I wish him a speedy recovery if he has. However, the words 'liar' and 'opportunist' instantly spring to mind whenever Johnson or any of his cabinet open their mouth. So it's understandable if there are doubts still.

I’ve got no time for Johnson and zero respect and admittedly one of my first thoughts when he was isolating was he was keeping his head down but this in no way assists anybody nor the country and would require a massive conspiracy with zero gain . Seems pretty clear , in my opinion at least , that The bloke Is seriously ill .

Apparently Johnson is now widely being described on national media as some kind of tennis champion and long distance athlete.

They arent gonna sneak that clear nonsense past me.

Athletic and strong apparently, “dear leader is doing well”.

I’m not wishing the bloke ill but it’s more feeding into the narrative of constant mistruths .

How much is Jeff Bezos worth?

Amazon makes a profit of around $11 billion a year, which even if it were taxed properly isn't going to make much of a dent in government spending. It's perhaps also worth considering that the company lost $2.8 billion in the 4 years or so the company operated before they turned a profit, which presumably is a period you wouldn't be happy the government picked the tab up for.

It's perhaps also worth considering that just over 2% of Bezos' net worth is in cash, with the remainder being in shares (presumably in Amazon itself). So in terms of cash, he's probably about as rich as Moshiri.

If he comes through this unscathed you know he’ll be dining out on this for years, ‘Boris man of the people who put himself in harms way for queen and country’, Instead of the absolute buffoon he is who ignores all guidelines and shakes hands with people who’ve tested positive

I'd agree that most things have been maintained pretty well. I suppose it depends on the framing of how you look at the NHS, if people want it to be an absolute rock in times of national crisis then there needs to be a rethink about how we achieve that. If that includes looking into creating more tightly controlled, exclusive suppliers it may be the needed direction.
