It would help enormously if government and authorities do what they are essentially there to do, not least in an emergency, and provide clear and direct leadership.

It is not the time for consultation. There will be text voting on this next the way it's going.

There is seemingly a two-week window to learn from Italy's mistakes on this. Why make the situation worse than it has to be?

At the least, ban large public gatherings, close colleges and schools, implement home working and a three-day week, have staggered public transport and strictly suspend incoming flights from the infection hot-spots.

Do all that now and review in two weeks. The sun will still come up in the mornings.

"Wash your hands" seems to be an appropriate metaphor at the moment, rather chillingly.

A couple of observations:

My plane back from Taiwan yesterday was fantastic, the service was exemplary and I'd have no problem flying with China Airlines again. However, it was so quiet, the back four or five rows were literally empty which was great for me because I had an entire row to sleep on.

Secondly, I am concerned by the checks being done on inbound flights from affected areas. It was announced that passengers were unable to leave the plane until permission had been granted by the Quarantine Office, so I thought okay, there'll be a few people dressed in biohazard suits coming onto the plane to check us out, but nope, nothing, apart from a 30 minute wait on the plane and then straight through immigration.

Anyway, I'm now in my self-imposed isolation period.
Don't fo
Unreal.

This government are killing us.

They are incapable of looking after their own people.

It's okay - Boris has BUPA!

From Reddit:

Thought I'd share the experience of someone in America caught up in their Covid-19 outbreak, just to underline how [Poor language removed] amazing our NHS is in comparison to the US healthcare system.
Coworker came back from LA cruise month ago, sick two weeks later, now severely sick in urgent care. Half of workplace has flu, I have flu, fever of 100 for past week.
Go to urgent care, test negative for flu, they tell me to call emergency room and corona hotline. Tell them info, emergency room says test with my Obamacare bronze plan will be $7500 AND I need to prove I came into direct contact with positive corona patient. Hotline said to go to urgent care or emergency room. Said same thing to my coworker with fever of 102.
They don’t have the test kits and are not testing anybody unless you can prove you had direct contact. Am I crazy when I think 100k+ have to be infected if this is our nations response!?!? Truly terrifying experiencing this firsthand. As a millennial, I’m in shock but if I was a boomer or older I’d be terrified and this week they truly will be.
Edit: Our boomer owners just sent an email, don’t come to work if you are sick. But you don’t get paid if you don’t go to work. I am going to work tomorrow, and so are all of my other sick millennial coworkers because my rent is $1100, my health insurance is $225, etc. and I only make $17/hr plus tips. I don’t get PTO, or benefits and this is the realization many customer service employees are about to face. Hiding your sickness as you go into work.

Christ alive, do people really put each other into boxes like that?

......Mrs Eggs and I are taking the whole family to Greece in just over 3 weeks. My granddaughter is just 1 and my daughter-in-law is close to 6months pregnant. Decision might have to be made.
Sorry to hear that. Am due to fly to Malta myself for a week. Will be making a decision myself soon.

It’s in my town now, Andover, Hampshire. The shops are selling out of loo roll and various things already, luckily we sensibly bought essentials weeks ago just to be safe, my partner has a chronic medical condition so think will be limiting going out for a while and keeping my daughter off school, they will fine us but right now I don’t really care.
