The cure can't be worse than the disease. That's true but the measure has to match the danger. That's not happening.

Nobody wants to see this maintaining till August. However this is an extraordinary threat and extraordinary treatment has to be taken.
Say you had woke up this morning with an uncomfortable feeling across your chest nothing major just something you noticed, what would you have done? Alot of people infact the majority would just leave it sure it's not a symptom of Covid 19, tomorrow it's a bit worse still not going to hospital I might catch covid 19, next morning your dead, clots in your lung, dead because you were too scared to go to hospital or the hospital told you to go home and rest because it's not Covid 19. This being the case and people are not seeking medical help for symptoms that they normally would then the cure is worse than the disease.

We know. Nobody wants to lose their job or be locked up in their house.

What? This isn't an either/or proposition. If you let this thing overwhelm the health system, many many people will die from non-covid related illnesses. I have no solution here and, while Tipp Blue's "let's get back to work, death happens" philosophy probably works well in your head, I think we should let the health experts get a handle on this and take the lead.

And more from COVID itself if the capacity isn’t there to properly treat people.

This is what people forget about mortality rates, the absolute mortality rate of a virus isn’t just intrinsic to the virus itself, but reflects the overall health of a population, the heathcare system’s standard, it’s capacity etc.

To let the virus overwhelm the population so everyone gets it would result in a mortality rate far higher than we’re already seeing.

A wee increase in Belgiums numbers yesterday after 3 days of decreases. Still nowhere near the worst days of past week so I remain hopeful we're on the right track.

Had some sun for the first time in ages so a few of us from the ground floor of the block had a beer outside on the building site at the back. All 2 metres away from each other and yelling up at somebody on the 8th floor who was joining us. On their balcony. Bizarre sight.

While the funding of the healthcare is on the government, perhaps one positive from all of this will be people realising how important it is to keep healthy.

Look, there's no set rule in terms of who could get this virus and be absolutely knocked by it. But a lot of people seem to be getting out on their daily exercise etc atm and maybe everyone will just pay extra attention to their own health in the long run which will be a positive.

When you ask who? Well firstly we have elected officials on both sides of the Atlantic. I presume you voted and therefore you are aware of the individuals capabilities.

Now since we have these elected representatives, it isn't a giant leap to suggest that they be competent enough to employ folks with the best qualifications.

Unfortunately what happens, is that people are incompetent. So they are replaced. Again, I'm struggling here to understand what you are are arguing with.

In clear terms, if the government is unfit to do the job that they were required to. We must therefore, look towards alternative solutions, in my opinion, an option is to bring in duly elected members from other parties to address this issue. To form an emergency government.

I don't remember a section in the manifesto titled "This is how I'd handle a world health crisis" when I voted but maybe I didn't look hard enough.

Again, WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE THAT YOU THINK ARE BETTER.

Did you get hit in the head this morning with a metal rail or something? We're not asking you to quantify the universe.

Let me counter your hypothetical scenario with another. Sentinel wakes up with an uncomfortable feeling in his chest, and the next day its a bit worse. He decides to go to the hospital, but it is massively beyond capacity because President Tipp Blue implemented a blanket "as you were" policy in response to a highly contagious and lethal virus sweeping the nation, meaning millions got infected. There are literally thousands of patients in hospitals that can only manage hundreds, so Sentinel dies outside the A+E he couldn't fit into

Not going to happen while polling categorically shows this government's popularity is increasing, the P M's popularity is increasing and Labour tanking.

This thing has already overwhelmed the health system, my mother in law is completely terrified, so much that yesterday my wife her daughter woke up with a swollen jaw, add was asked by her own mother not to ring the doctor as they might ask her to go in, my wife has an underlying condition (diabetes). Turns out it's mumps which I had a few weeks ago (both of us were vaccinated so it's obviously not 100%). My did ring mainly to see if there can be any complications for someone with diabetes who's contracted mumps. To me if there are people out there who would advise against seeking medical advise on other ailments then the cure has become worse than the disease, and I can guarantee that my mother in law is not the only one like that.

I’d like to see lots of things learnt from this. Personal health and importance of exercise is certainly one. More recognition of the ‘key workers’ who are currently keeping the country going - not just the NHS, but shelf stackers, cleaners, drivers etc. Without those ‘low skilled’ workers the country would be on its arse.

There’s a long list of things that we should learn in terms of personal, social and national priorities.
