But how many players are there to be had that are better than "high mid table" calibre for a price of £3-6m? Because that is about the price range we have to go shopping in. Look at the teams above us and all of their truly CL quality players, I only see Evra, Cole, Kompany, Bale and maybe Chicharito as falling in that price range and they're all defenders except Bale who was bought when he was still a teenager, and Hernandez who has the luxury of being a super sub.
People go on about players like Cazorla, Suarez, van Persie, etc being great buys but we simply aren't capable of operating in that price range.
If I put my house on sale for £2b nobody will buy it.
If I put it in sale for £2 it would be gone in 30 seconds.
The same is true of a football club.
If you've had it on the market for 10 years and nobody has bought it then it does imply the price being asked is too high or it is not really for sale.
that is a great question and the nub of the argument neither you nor me can answer it's why we pay these managers so much to come up with the solution.
The one guarantee is every year a good player appears from nowhere at some club or other, Michu, Benteke etc and our man needs to be finding these and be brave enough to wheel and deal OR make it known the board are shthouses as big joe did.
Don't think we could afford even Benteke mate, didn't he cost £10 million?
Looks like this is off topic and swerving the swear filter, hmmm?
The biggest problem with Moyes is he seems unable to make best use of the squad that he himself has built, end of story.
My gut feeling now is that Moyes is off but doesn't want to say so because of the all round negative impact it would have on the club.

Fixed
Anyway you said it yourself, every season one good players appears from nowhere, these bargains aren't growing on trees, it's one thing to ask a manager to buy one brilliant player for peanuts and another to ask him to fill a squad with them. I would argue that Moyes has found some equivalent bargains, Arteta 2m, Baines 6m, etc. Don't get me wrong I don't mean to defend him at all costs and some criticism of him is warranted but it's important to look at his transfer record relative to his peers, and I ask you again, which manager has done better?
When Moyes sold Rodwell and brought in Mirallas, Pienaar etc in the summer was that wheeling and dealing? Selling Bily and bringing in Gibson, Jelavic, Donovan and Pienaar? I don't think you've just made any point there whatsoever as our manager is doing that and has been doing it for all of the 11 years.
Now I hugely agree with this but be honest mate do you think we held onto Bily and in all honesty Rodwell for too long? The dithering dave thing?
