CONFIRMED: Moyes Leaving - All Reaction Here

It takes money to be attacking and not concede goals at the same time.

That, I can agree on.

A team on a limited budget end up having to prioritise one or the other, Moyes has always prioritised defence. That's because he's defensive.

That doesn't mean he doesn't like attacking play, of course he does, (we've played some lovely attacking football under Moyes at times, just lovely stuff) but whenever he has to compromise one or ther other, he chooses to compromise our attack.

Obviously on an unlimited budget, he'd be far more attacking because he wouldn't have to compromise either.

Do you think they were patronising you?

Bearing in mind the anfield debacle was for us to progress in the FA cup which they laughed and celebrated heartily about.

Seems a wembley final (that they come close to retrieving) plus 3 derby wins trumps our "challenging for europe" (luv that bollocks)

Who knows fella, they are a cult after all - I dont speak for them but look at them now - no chance i would trade places.

That's not fair. We have played some lovely football this year, we really have.

Anyone who'd rather finish 7th with no cup finals, no trophies, no derby wins, and no europe than 8th with three derby wins, a trophy, two cup finals and european qualification is an idiot.[/QUOTE]

Did it push them onwards this season? Nope. By then end of this season they will have finshed below us, shot the last of the money and will wake up to the fact they have a poor manager.

Yeah who cares about winning trophies when you can finish 7th instead.

Not really.

The super attacking Blackpool scored 4 more goals than Everton in their only Premier league season. However they let in 33 more.

Because they were crap. God knows I don't want to be blackpool but they were on a budget that was about a tenth of ours, to be fair.

The point was simply that you can attack while being poor. You can.

I don't believe they have "shot the last of the money". I believe they will be one of the bigger spenders in the summer (regardless if Suarez stays or goes), they always have been except for Hodgson's short reign.

I would take finishing below Liverpool this season if it meant we won the FA Cup.

EDIT: I have no idea who I have quoted there.

Can you name me a manager in the Premier League who is attacking by nature operating on a similar budget?

You're arguing it takes money to be attacking now?

Ian Holloway says hi.

Not really.

You bring defence into an conversation about scoring goals costing money, you move the goalposts.

The context of that conversation regarded being a successful manager in the premier league. You're being pedantic because Timak was making a lot of sense.

The thing is, if you look back at what I've said in this thread, I absoloutly agree that it will be hard to find a manager who will have us finish higher in the league than Moyes does on our budget. He deserves a lot of credit for getting as many league points as he does on his budget.

But ultimately I don't really view a season where we finish 7th rather than 11th as a huge success the way Moyes' big boosters do. It goes back to taking liverpool's season last year over ours.

Ultimately if you don't finish top 4 and you don't finish top three, the league positions don't matter that much to me. Which is why I've never been as convinced by Moyes as others as that's all he bring you.

The other stuff, the attacking open football, the young players getting starts, the derby wins, the cup runs etc. He doesn't give us. (Though he has played some excellent football at times, this idea that we're always a second rate stoke is bollocks.)

And I'd take attacking football with a young team who wins derbies and gets to the latter stages of the cup and finishes 15th over defensive football with an old team who loses derbies and cup games and finishes 6th, myself.

It's a personal choice there, but it's equally a personal chocie by Moyes to prioritise league position over everything else (such as attacking football and blooding the youth.)

I like Moyes, he's done a decent job on the whole, but ultimately there's better managers out there.
