CONFIRMED: Moyes Leaving - All Reaction Here

And a totally useless thing to stick on Moyes.

You can't compare him to eras when we regularly had a chance of winning the Premier League. In trophies he actually has a chance of winning we've won 5 in 100 years.

I'm with sheeds on this, you can't on the one hand use the different eras to free him from trophy obligation and on the other hand treat all the eras as the same in terms of cup wins.

Stats are or can be misleading mate because of we can't compete for titles should we be 'more up' for league or FA cup ? I saw us lose at Wembley because we'd played earlier in the week at a final in Rotterdam .

Does that make sense ?

I agree we should be more up for the cups mate, i'm not defending some of Moyes' tactics and performances in cup competitions.

However, it's silly imo to criticise Moyes and then say 'No trophy for 18 years', there are many factors to that which Moyes can't take any blame for. Weak finances, no chance of winning the league, etc.

Then try reading the actual post and using common sense.

5 FA Cups in 100 years. The Premier League is not a realistic aim for a club in our position, so past league titles cannot possibly be used as a benchmark for gauging Moyes' success.

Unless you have an agenda that is.

Just using the trophies you highlight: 22 chances to bag a trophy by 'the best squads since the 80s glory years' and the trophy cabinet remains securely padlocked and empty...during a period when club's we'd consider inferior with inferior squads win trophies.

It's tough, yes. The elite teams are tough to beat. Impossible though? No. A manager of 'the best of the rest' should probably have won either domestic cup by now. That's not setting a high bar.

Exactly, Dave.

It's a tough thing to do.

But he's one of the best paid managers in the world. You'd expect him to do tough things. If we only expect easy things then we might as well have martinez as manager.

Having a better team than wigan and millwall should mean we beat them. (And leeds)

Same as having a better team than liverpool last year. And reading the year before.

It's not about history.
By that rationale it would be pointless getting to the final because all three of the potential finalists we would face have better teams than us.

I see him looking for offers this summer, Kenwright allowing him to take the best part of that summer to look, Moyes not getting a sniff of a bigger job because 'bigger clubs' know he's a bottler, and Moyes eventually signing up again in late July/early August.

That's the fear, and by then it'll be too late and we'll start off poorly as a result.

With potentially Man City and Chelsea changing manager this Summer, does he think he could get something 'bigger' with a few movements etc.? Saturday while a good result changed nothing for me, the big game was the Wigan one.

Turning us into a completely different proposition as a team and bringing European football multiple times and keeping us there for close to 11 years is more than tough, like. No one else has done it in recent history.

Four teams lower than us in the league in those 22 attempts have won a cup, at least two of which were a result of massive luck (Swansea and Birmingham).

Portsmouth spent £50m in three seasons prior to winning their cup.

Moyes has not underachieved really. In individual games, yes. But compared to his peers, no.

Exactly.

Those who live by the finances excuse die by the finances excuse.

If Moyes can't be expected to beat teams who outspend us the way City and Spurs do, then wigan and leeds likewise can't be expected to beat us who outspend them in equally huge ammounts.

But that doesn't come with an open top bus and a trip to Wembley, so people totally understimate it.

£1.5m per year for 11 years.

Those who want Moyes to leave. Face the truth 4th/5th is the best we could hope for, we have no money (ask Kenwright why). What make you think another manager could do better than Moyes with absolutely no money (net spend)? Cos there isn't one exist at all. I don't want Martinez here he will take us to the Championship with the ****e he signs.

When did we last finish 4th or 5th though?

Not last year, or the year before, or the year before. We're not 4th or 5th now, either.

Underachieved would be a hilarious word to use. Overall, he's vastly overachieved. I am NOT underestimating the value of trophies there, btw.
