"For some reason they thought my [contractual] position was the reason for that result. So is my position now the reason for this result? I feel as good about it as I did 11 years ago, when I won my first game here, against Fulham. We have beaten the champions to try to get into the Champions League."

Good point Dave.

"It was a really big game for us‚" Moyes said. "I sensed people were questioning a lot of things and were ready to turn on us so we needed that win. Everything seemed to come to a head last week.

"I wasn’t hurt by the way people lost perspective last week and I can’t even say I was surprised because it seemed that everybody thought the whole future of Everton was riding on that one game,’’ said Moyes, who then made a point about Coleman, the type of low-cost, high-yield footballer that Everton must rely on.

“Coleman has things to learn defensively but he is coming on. We’ve had a week where people are questioning things and we’ve paid 60 grand for Seamus Coleman.

"That shows the progress we’ve made yet people were pointing the finger at me for not progressing the side. This has been a reminder to the fans about where we are and what we have achieved, and maybe they do need that reminder sometimes.

“Would I rather be here than anywhere else on a day like this? Well, if you’d asked me that when I made a substitution that didn’t seem that popular [like Steven Naismith for Mirallas] even though I felt it was right to keep us in the game, then there’s a wee element of that as well!

“I felt I was being questioned at that moment, but maybe people are now big enough to turn around and concede that we perhaps got it right after all. I’ve definitely given Everton the respect with my work here and I hope that’s mutual.’’

I find that attitude insulting, tbh. It's like a massive finger aimed at anyone daring to suggest we might actually be successful for the first time in 18 years.

I really dont care if this feller stays or goes.

He comes across as very sarcastic there. I really can't stand the man, he really does believe he is the saviour of this club and we should all bow down to him. No matter what happens this season I want him gone.

The telegraph comment is bang on the money for me.

Altough I agree that moyes does say some odd things in press conferences. I'll defend him and say you can't really understand the tone and context of what he's saying when it's just written down.

What I usually find is that when you see the full footage, he usually says something slightly objectionble (to everton fans at least) but then says something next that seems more modest to sort of backtrack from it. Often, almost like he's having a conversation with himself.

He's just a contradiction machine in general, I mean how often to we hear that top 10 is good achievement for Everton and then a few days later that everton deserve to be in the mix for the champions league and we should always aim to be the best we can?

This is the problem with having sycophantic journalists who just ask easy questions every week, one starts to believe that anything one says it relevant, interesting and correct.

I think he's merely enjoying the fact that his team won & won well, after a week when he'd taken **** from all angles, it must have been a great release for him.

He sounds pretty fed up to me if im honest, he wont like being questioned by the fans and you can see the Naismith reaction got to him - i always remember him saying he would consider his position if the fans felt he had gone as far as he could, i think exactly that is on his mind - he not feeling the love he once did from some of the fan base. I would be delighted but very surprised if hes here next year.

I realise that but it's like we shouldn't have even be questioning him because he is right and that's all that matters. He messed up last week and bringing Naismith on for Mirallas was a very lucky move IMO. He was just terrible when he came on but somehow got in the mix for the 2nd.

That whole interview stinks if someone who is leaving in the summer. He got the substitution right. No matter how many of us disagreed. All the booing isn't going to sway him towards staying. It's going to do the complete opposite. I think it's all over for Moyes and it's from his behalf. He wants a new chapter. I actually don't blame him.

Fella who works with me - Season tkt holder at wigan for donkey years. Asked him a couple of questions after the Wigan game.

What,s your thoughts on Martinez? Not ready for a big job could take him 4-5 years at least, runs brenden rodgers a close 2nd on his after match interviews eg talking s***e

What if he went to everton? would thank him for getting them to wembley but thinks Wigan can be better with a more experianced manager. Very worried that martinez will take them down this season.

What was you reaction to evertons performance? Stuuned thought we (Wigan) would get beat and still expected everton to come out after half time and take it to a replay - stunned that nothing happened.

Wouldn't read much into an average bloke weighing up Martinez. I think he'd do ok. The only thing I'd question is the calibre of player he'd look to bring in. I am 100% certain Barkley would get in most weeks under Martinez.

Could he manage big egos? Fellaini, Heitinga? I don't know. Very doubtful.

He,s a good lad actually and a season tkt holder for 15 years. Told it straight.

Anyway I dont,t watch Wigan every week so he has value in his thoughts.

He's having a dig back at the fans I reckon. Conveniently forgetting why we question his judgement and tactics.

All part of his exit strategy I reckon.

No, he's just sticking 2 fingers back up at those who called him from a pig to a dog last week & those who had a further pop at his substitution, which despite your view of it, ended up being the right decision.

By mentioning Colemans cost, he's reminding those who think we should be doing better under his leadership, what he has to contend with.
