Computer games.

I disagree. Think maybe nostalgia is playing a part here. Which is understandable. In terms of raw "OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS GAME" magic nothing has ever come close to my favourite games as a kid. But I think that's because I was a kid, and not the cynical and miserable bugger I am now.

It's possible of course

It's possible of course

Pokémon games are a great example. The originals were worse in every single way but the magic of Red/Blue/Yellow is unrepeatable.

It's a combination of nostalgia and also experiencing originality. It's naturally harder to be original the longer a medium exists (a problem seen in films for good long while). That's why I'm optimistic about VR, as it rips up the design rulebook somewhat and will hopefully allow for creative minds to shine.

Anyone ever played Rick Dangerous (apologies if already mentioned, unlikely tho')?

Loved RD as a kid. Pretty sure I found a pc version a while ago, god knows where tho! :(

Been getting into civ v, had to restart a couple of times as I'm still learning the intricacies but I was buzzing when I handed Ramses' arse to him last night with some chariot archers.

also other query.

Civilization revolution 1 or 2. any good? I enjoyed Civilization 2 quite a bit, doe sit play anything like that?

Civ V is great. VI out soon, can't wait. Think CR 1/2 are more watered down Console/Tablet versions, so probably nothing like Civ II.

You can buy the parts to to build a solid gaming rig for ~£300. Putting it together is just a case of watching Youtube videos on your phone if you're not sure. It's just grown up lego.

Three links for anyone to simply join the pcmr.

Or just ask a mate to do it for you ;)

The complaints about micro transactions in Deus Ex are a storm in a teacup. You don't need to buy them at all to experience the game properly. I don't think there's anything wrong with devs putting optional purchases in their games.

Games where you need to pay extra to fully experience the game are a different story.
You're not pestered to purchase them, at all. The vast majority of microtransactions in the game are related to a mini game which is totally separate from the main game. As I said, there is zero need to purchase anything to complete or fully enjoy the main game.
You're both right I think. You're making it seem a bigger deal than it is in the game but you're also right to, as it's a dodgy practice that needs to be nipped in the bud. Publishers will get away with whatever they can and consumer complacency lets them push the boundaries of what is acceptable further.

For me, Mankind Divided is a brilliant game and the devs have done a great job; I wouldn't let Square Enix being shady affect the game itself or how you enjoy it. But I also wouldn't let it slide, as just like with mortal kombat's instant finisher stuff, it's just not on at all.

Look what came up in my youtube 'recommended' section. @Mikey_Fitzgerald and @Tubey's fave games industry critic.

Needless to say, I watched both and agree with the dude wholeheartedly.

Pfft.....

Get some of Rally Championship 2000 or Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix (special mention to Grand Prix 4, which to this day has probably one of the best physics engine to feature in a racing game) and talk about difficulty.

Never played rally championship 2000 but Richard burns rally is widely regarded as the most difficult racing sim of all time, it's also the most realistic rally sim about although it's so dated now in terms of visuals that Dirty Rally is what most people play as its upto date and still offers a good challenge albeit with slightly dumbed down physics.

Gp4 used to be great buts it's physics nowadays are miles behind the likes of IRacing etc, sims have come a long way in the past 3-4 years, particularly the dark art of tire modelling.

Hmm, for some reason I thought RBR was a continuation of the CMR series.....I am way off base on that one. I will have to check it out.

Rally Champ 2000 was hard, but it isn't really that realistic. I was just commenting for effect really. Although in regards to GP4, I thought the wet weather physics are still up there with the best of the actual racing simulations out there. Just thinking, now I have a decent computer, I really need to check out some decent racing games. I have Race 07 in my steam library.....is that worth a bash?

Still can't decide between pro evo or Fifa this year
Pros
The pro evo demo is good
Always wanted to play master league
My club, a fut rip off but not as good.
Cons
Can't stand no licences for names and the club names
Always been a Fifa head

Now Fifa
Pros
Played this for years
Goodison
Licences
New story mode
Online play is superior to pro evo

Cons
Career mode
FUT, love this at the start still do but I can't stand the fact it comes down to real money to build a team.

I want Fifa but scared of being pulled into FUT again.

Hmm. Race 07 is ok but very dated, simbin physics aren't great tbh.

The best options are

IRacing: strictly for hardcore sim heads with wheel/pedals. Best overall sim by some distance but costs a ton of money to get into properly. I've spent about £1200 on it over the past five years and that's not including the thousands spent on the wheel/pedals/shifter/triple screens/racing rig etc.... it's more a hobbie than a game....

Assetto corsa: great physics (if a bit forgiving on the limit), driving experience is wonderful... everything else sucks though. It's basically good for lapping by yourself and just driving for the joy of experiencing the physics... as an actual racing game it's nothing special, the ai are terrible and multiplayer very basic.

Raceroom: kinda like a modern upto date simbin game, Ceri good single player experience. Physics are better than your usual games such as Forza, GT and project cars but isn't on the level of the top sims. It's pricing structure is kinda weird as well. Probs best to buy a single expansion for it such as adac gt masters.

F1 2016: which has turned out surprisingly well and is easily the best f1 game since GP4. It's still a bit simcade but with all assists off it actually handles surprisingly legit. Cars behave how you'd expect them to more or less. It's the most fleshed out game of all the ones I mentioned as well.

Also bare in mind I'm reviewing these from a wheel/pedal perspective. Out of all of them I think f1 2016 and raceroom are the only ones which handle ok on a joypad.
