Club Statement: Coronavirus

It could be because after the First World War, the Spanish Flu had 2 waves, so people think this will. Plus if it slows down and people think it's gone and start going to mass gatherings again, it could start back up, a second wave.
The second wave of Spanish Flu was worse, obviously as a world we are cleaner...etc now but a 2nd wave is still a worry.

I'm not sure how the Spanish Flu ever went away, but the normal flu comes back every year, often in a slightly different strain. That's why I think people consider further 'waves' of this virus to be probable rather than improbable.

The virus is in charge at the moment, not the government and certainly not the league or the FA.
The month of April is when we will probably see the crisis reach it's apex but that doesn't mean it is over then, it doesn't mean that people won't die and it doesn't mean that a second surge won't come if regulations are relaxed.

It is way too early to predict when football in any guise will be back.

To be honest, this always sounds like a clever phrase but it is wrong. As shown in Belarus etc. If your government is mad enough to let you carry on as usual, then football would be possible. So really yes, the government is in charge.

Is it true that there is an expected second wave of this virus in November time ?
There has been times when a pandemic has had a second wave . As said here the Spanish Flu in the beginning of the last century and even Bubonic plague in India at the end of the same century .
However , I'm pretty much sure that the WHO and other medical institutions won't take their eye off the ball and be on constant lookout sporadic dense reinfections of an area .

The thing about Spanish Flu, one could stay at home what ever age you were and get over it, it did not need the hospitalisation this virus needs. Okay flu did kill people but his virus the way it does it is like being strangled.

According to the BBC sex workers income has dramatically fallen away since coronavirus restrictions. A fund has been set up to help them get by.
Maybe that's all Kyle Walker was doing. Trying to help British sex workers through these hard(oh missus) times!

Yes there is and the forecast is that the second wave will be larger. I think the timing of the second wave depends on when the restrictions are lifted on social isolation. WHO have stated that lifting restrictions, which some people think is needed from an economic point of view, will actually be damaging financially in the long term.

I know this sounds horrible but there will come a point when governments start getting confident that the NHS capacity won’t be breached by the number of patients going forward and this will become like the seasonal flu in how it’s considered by people. Even if it rears it’s head again as long as the health service can deal with it it largely won’t make the news. People might not even know they have it in the future unless they become very ill from it. So further waves probably are probable but unless they overflow the health service like this one threatened to do so, I doubt we’ll see this kind of shutdown again.

FIFA are set to confirm an indefinite extension to the current season with dates changes to the transfer window – as well as changes in contract expiry.

So, we'll be finishing the current season in about December.

I did read one really interesting piece last week on it, which suggested we might live in a world of waves until a cure, herd immunity or some other solution is validated. Basically, the point was we will live (particularly through winters) in essentially a traffic light system, numbers low - green light to carry on, but as soon as thresholds are broken, red light on & social distancing implemented again to relieve the pressure, spread rates etc.

I still think this;

They're absolutely right to do everything within their power to get this season over the line. Postponing the Euros and allowing extra time is the right thing to do.

But I think it will be ridiculous if the season continues beyond 30th June.

It makes no odds who you support, or at least is shouldn't - there's a reason the laws of the game have deadlines.
Becomes a piss take if it goes beyond 30th June though, IMO.

The integrity of last, I mean this season has completely gone now.

The length of the break, players lacking fitness and inevitable games behind closed doors means home advantage has gone - take the derby for one, we've played at Anfield, and now the Goodison one would be behind closed doors?

Greed has replaced common sense, but then that's football. Behind the multi millions spent on PR, it's a despicable industry.

It all hinges on large scale testing I think. If they can push down infection rates to manageable levels and start widespread testing so that they can do contact tracing/containment then that’s one “exit strategy”. I do think we’ll see social distancing employed to some degree for the next year or two.

yeah - this seems spot on and blurs the lines about how any stadium sporting events / concerts are gonna happen in the next 12 / 18 months

This is spot on, but as it stands every party from Fifa, UEFA, Major European leagues, the PL, FA & the broadcasting companies have all suggested that they are prepared to extend beyond this point.

Presumably time will catch up on this arguement and they move towards focusing on next season at some point, but that is a while away yet
