Clapping Naismith

I've just been reading comments on the Ross Barkley thread and the abuse he's getting. Now I've no intention of comparing his attributes compared with Naismiths, for the time being that is irrelevant, but what did annoy me at the game last night was the contrast in the reaction from certain people in the ground.
In case you dont understand the rules, may I remind you and please dont think I'm being condescending, but here goes.... The team in blue gets encouragement, the opposition gets abuse.
And even if by some miracle the Golden Vision makes a comeback wearing a Bournemouth shirt on Saturday then I will still boo my boyhood hero.

After you had your moan over Barkley...

You wrong me, I considered the posts should go in his thread. Having said that, think folk were saying back when he was 18 he had enormous ability and potential. Do you not think now 4 years later we should be seeing more of that and consistently.

Clapping Naismith was a great gesture from the Evertonians, took a lot of pride last night from our fan base.

Did a lot for the people of Liverpool while he was here, played his best in the old royal blue but was moved on by the club as we seen him as being below the standard we require. Unlike players like Stones who want to get off first chance they get, players like Naismith fully deserve some respect to be shown to them.

The rules are there are no rules. Traditionally going to a football represents a release from the rules and constraints of daily life. Boo , clap ,sing ,moan whatever you want. We're supporters not an army.

Ok then if that's what you want, sounds like a night at the cinema for you. Fair play not saying you're wrong but for me it's about passion.
Let's agree to disagree.

I've been to quite a few of our games over the years when we've clapped when the opposition has scored a really good goal and have no problem with clapping Naismith after he scored. If people want to fume pointlessly about it on the internet then I have no problem with that either.

This is why we've the reputation of classy supporters.. sportmanship at it's finest. Naismith get's it and so do most blues.

Please explain!!!! Have I missed something within this Everton forum or have I inadvertently stumbled into a Norwich fan site ?

Wow, how strange and if you don't mind me saying so a rather disturbing response.
But hey it takes all sorts, however if going to the match and hoping to see Everton win makes me a 'super-Evertonian' then hands up its a fair cop bro.

If you think going to Everton is just a night at the cinema for me you have totally misunderstood what I am about and I am actually (and probably stupidly insulted). I have sang and shouted myself hoarse , travelled far and wide ,been punched, kicked, arrested and stabbed following Everton. Over my working life I have missed five home games, and I was going regularly before that in the late sixties. I was born ,raised , and schooled in Walton. On Tuesday night a large number of supporters chose to give a player they liked and respected a spontaneous accolade that was their choice and they are no less Evertonians for it . It has happened before and will happen again try not to be so condescending . Than you. ......phew.

If People pay the money to go the game, they can do what ever they want.
It is a personal thing, if they want to clap and show respect to a player that's fine by me.
As long as they break no laws and act within reason of course.

I've no problem with Naismith as a person, he's a role model for any professional footballer but once he lines up against Everton then he's the opposition, the enemy. It isnt classy to applaud the opposition, would you hase applauded him if he played for the R S ?

It was an utter fluke lol

If he'd rifled one in from range fine but he couldn't do what he did if he tried!

I'm all for sportsmanship. In fact I go to a lot of rugby and it's the done thing to acknowledge good play from the opposition. But goodness it was so cringe last night. It was the first noise out of the street all match

I'd wager most people who clapped didn't know it was a fluke, I certainly didn't. As he was nearing goal I was shouting "Just f off Naismith and balls it up" and couldn't work out how the hell he'd made the ball move like that !

Fair enough, you found it cringey, as for the noise out of the Gwladys, next time you're over, go in there and get some songs going (y)
