City getting clapped off yesterday

Loving the fact that David had to try and compare Pep and the Clown.

Pep plays attacking possession based football, utilising fullbacks to attack "the half spaces".

The clown plays defensive possession based football, utilising centrebacks to pass the ball between themselves for 90minutes.

Sure we have a garbage manager who has awful tactics and picks awful lineups.

That being said we can't really play any style with that back line. FFS we've given up more than Bournemouth and they don't even care about defending. Baines, Jags and Williams are all too old. Keane is worse than Lovern (it would be nice to you know play Mori, Holgate who yes probably aren't good enough but we have the magic 40 points so we can try!). Coleman looks fit enough that he could run screaming from this calamity and start for any club not named Man City.

1st priority is fixing this club from the back. and I don't about you but I have complete confidence that the front office/management can bring the right players in
Erm......

Was Koeman trying to implement a pressing style and let down by his or Walsh’s recruitment ? We never seemed to play that way but it was often touted in the media that was his style, never saw it myself.
Not a Fonseca fan I take it?
Koeman talked about it a lot, but he never struck me as someone serious about it. As a tactician he was hopeless. he cane across like a convert to pressing football but only in as much as it made him look like he had a relevant style. He didn't. He had us playing every which way and it was dire most of the time.

How much of that was down to Koeman, and how much down to the DOF recruiting the wrong players?

And it has to be top to bottom- the DOF needs to be completely qualified to implement whichever identify is chosen.

If it's Brands, as many believe, he has to be securing a manager right now and identifying players to bring in - even if he has to make the tough choice of selling on players who cant work the new system for a knock down price.

Koeman utterly wrecked this club and here we are living with the consequences, basically.

I think it's fairly easy to guess with accuracy who Koeman wanted in. If he wanted to press then would he have gone full throttle to bring Rooney, Sigurdsson, Klaassen in? All of those were his ideas. The one player I'd say does suit for the pressing game is Gueye, and he is very likely to have been Walsh's idea, so similar is the style to Kante.

The feller was utterly clueless. A fraud.

Oh here he is. It's bullying time again.

I think the new coaching set up (if it arrives in the summer) has to be bold and have a clear out. A fire sale of players no matter whether they cost £40M or £4m. Just get shut as many as we possibly can and retain what we do want to go on with next season, and whatever proceeds we receive from sales has to be backed by cash from the club.

We DO have to start again. This is unsalvageable imo.

TBF, I'm not equating the styles. I'm saying Guardiola has certainty about the way he sets up and plays and doesn't, once he has the lay of the land, adapt that much. Of course Martinez isn't the manager that Guardiola is but in the same way he had a style and didn't chop about too much. That's bad when you dont have the players to pull it off and you do need adaptation at this club and any manager coming in will need to do that. But we do need a method that we adopt for the most part and everyone knows what we are and what we're trying to do.

We are aimless and artless at this moment.

We are currently on our 3rd manager of the season, of course things are going to be disjointed, they will remain that way until we get a manager in and allow him to implement their style.

That's another issue and why we are how we are: we have players who have been bought with no cohesive strategy behind why they are here. That happens when you dont have a clear line of thinking on coaching succession.

As said, we need a fire sale in the summer and start from scratch.

I agree totally.

Sell every single player, sack every single coach, bar Duncan, sack all the kitmen, the coach driver, the tea lady, everybody needs to go from Moshiri down.

Not what I said.

On the playing side, if you can name 8/9 players you think would be a base for a new manager to build a future upon you're doing well.

A base, thats easy.

Pickford
Coleman - Holgate - ?????? - Baines
Gana - Davies
Walcott - Tosun - ??????
Now of course Baines would need replacing, very, very soon, you would certainly need a little more quality instead of Gana and Davies, Holgate might not quite be ready, but its a base to work from, granted not an amazing base, but theres a decent core there at least.

@davek is right in that the club currently has zero identity and there is a massive disconnect between fan base and team.

I don’t agree it was a reference to the Martinez days re clapping off City; I think it was an appreciation of the champions elect and probably a thinly veiled dig at current regime.

The identity needs sorting. No point appointing a management team till the club decides how it’s football strategy goes forward.

For me we should be able to appoint a manager who fits our strategy; not have one dictated by manager.
